Research Report: Initial Research Question You may not use Generative AI for this activity. 1. Provide an initial question for your topic. Write a sentence or two explaining why you chose this question.  My question will be what are the main factors contributing to the ongoing border crisis in Texas, and how are these factors impacting various agencies and communities? (i.e. law enforcement agencies, local communities, immigrant, and Texas’ overall state economy)  This question will allow me to research and dig deeper into not just the border crisis. But also, the consequences and causes from multiple resources / perspectives. I can look into immigration policies, economic conditions, and how the surrounding communities and states who have sent support have been impacted. 2. Your final essay will need to have a specific audience. This could be people with a specific interest, a government body, people in a certain age range, etc. It can also be the class. It cannot be “the general public” or everyone. Who do you think a good audience for this topic/question is? Why?  My audience would be government policymakers, law enforcement agencies, border patrol officials and local community leaders in Texas. Because even though this is a national issue now if a state or government official happened to read my research paper it could help make an informed decision with what the next steps would be based on my research about this issue. 3. Using a library database (general or specific), find a journal article that addresses your topic and can help you answer your research

List the author, article title, journal title, publication date, pages and DOI (if there is one) here.  Article Title: Texas AG says state not backing down from Shelby Park takeover in Eagle Pass  Author: Sandra Sanches  Journal title: BorderReport.com  Publication date: Jan 26, 2024  Pages: 1 page (I used the Auraria library database and one article listed BorderReport.com and from there I found this article) 4. Write roughly a page that summarizes the article’s content and argument. On Friday there was a deadline from the Homeland Security requesting Texas to open Shelby Park in Eagle Pass to federal authorities, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton disputed that during the building of the border barrier in 2008 federal authorities having rights to the Shelby Park. In this report AG Ken Paxton sent a 3-page letter to DHS General Counsel Jonathan Meyer covering the above stated dispute and this is the second time AG Ken Paxton has told federal officials that Texas will not relinquish the border park. On Tuesday DHS General Counsel Meyer requested that the state evacuate control of the park by Friday night. January 10 th Texas National Guard established a gate and sealed off the park’s entrance and has not allowed Border Patrol agent to enter, the National Guard did so under the state’s ‘Operation Lone Star Border’. Shelby Park’s boat ramp is a popular spot where migrants try to illegally cross from Mexico into Texas territory. AG Paxton wrote “this office will continue to defend Texas’ efforts to protect its southern border against ever effort by the Biden Administration to undermine the State’s constitutional right of self-defense”. After January 12 th tension has escalated due to the drowning of a women and her 2 young kids.
