EDUC 703 F P HILOSOPHER V ALUES & E THICS T EMPLATE DISPOSITION HISTORICAL EXAMPLE With Citation CURRENT PROPOSED APPLICATION SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Fairness, Justice, Equity Maria Montessori Frierson’s 2016 article talks about the student’s autonomy in the classroom and how it leads to the students making decisions for themselves. This promotes fairness, justice and equality in the classroom that is not brought about by the student and not the teacher This is in line with current educational thought about teachers being more of a facilitator in the classroom. This helps the students to gain more freedom in their actions and thereby promoting social responsibility. COMMITMENT Work Ethic, Committed to the Field of Education Jonathan Edwards Smith’s 2020 book tells the reader about Edward’s theory of education that supports unity and harmony. In unity and harmony students are able to experience “What was true, right, and real…” (p.66) Creating a sense of unity and harmony in the classroom is part of successful classroom management. This is something that some teachers are successful at and others are not. It is something that is needed in the classroom in our “troubled” times. REFLECTION Critical Analysis, Reform, Progress, Data-based Decisions St. Augustine Mejzner’s 2020 article about St. Augustine reflects on his ability to reflect on the Word of God and how reflecting on one self and on the Word will bring about truth and this will lead to a greater “heart” for the Word. The “heart” that St. Augustine and Mejzer were talking about relates easily to the education field in how teachers should be. We should be reflective about the heart of teaching and where our heart lies in the educational field. The more “heart” we have for the education of the children in our classrooms, the more effective teacher we will become. INTEGRITY Ethical Leadership Rev. Dr. Martin Luther This is something that I have been taught about Martin Luther in my education at Concordia University Texas. He displayed integrity in his convictions no matter how much his elders defaced him, belittle him, charged him with crimes, and assassination attempts. Integrity is needed in the education field so that we as educators do not get sucked up into the “it’s not in my job description” talk. Integrity is what keeps the educator learning and making strides in the learning process. Integrity can be undermined by the newest craze in our society of self-love. We have to look at what we do is for the kids and not for the paycheck.
EDUC 703 PROFESSIONALISM Effective Problem Solving John Dewey Andersson and Maivorsdotter’s 2017 article speaks to John Dewey’s aesthetic experience to professionalism. This is done in the example of an elite athlete and his career path. This article focused on the education of the career and the different learning concepts that took place. In today’s educational field, teachers for all students need to take this approach in which they take many approaches to teach a topic to the classroom. Taking this approach will help the students to understand that all thought process’ are valid so long as we get to the right answer. Letting students take this responsibility helps students learn the information and apply it in real life situations. References Andersson, J., & Maivorsdotter, N. (2017).
