2 Education Trends in Policing In the last four decades, the topic of education trends in policing has gained momentum, with numerous scholars raising concerns over the direction of police education and the role it should serve. Additionally, concerns regarding education trends in policing surface occasionally, even in the present day -for instance, what police should learn, who and how to administer police education- to enforce tertiary police education. Nevertheless, some educational trends have been realized and embedded into policing, contributing to positive professional growth and improving policing scholarships. This paper will discuss some of the education trends in policing in different parts of the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. For starters, in Australia, education trends in policing have consistently improved, specifically in regions such as Tasmania, Victoria, and New South Wales. This growth is facilitated by successful partnerships between universities and the police department, which promote undergraduate and postgraduate police education. Secondly, according to the College of Policing (2015), in the United Kingdom, the institution is currently rolling out a program identified as the Police Education Qualification Framework, which has been tasked with raising education standards for the police. This program is expected to promote overall professional development in the police department. The United States, on the other hand, has continued to relaunch debates started during the Obama administration concerning what educational requirements police should receive and perfect before getting back into their field of work. In response to these debates and growing pressure to acknowledge expanding educational needs in policing, the United States government has received initiated plans to implement recommendations to improve police training and education (President’s Task Force on 21 st Century Policing, 2015,) .
