There is a need to create awareness that will have an impact on the parents, and teachers, and significantly affect the behavior of these teens. These people affect adolescent behavior as they create the pressure and stress that lead these teens to abuse these substances as a means to escape this stress and pressure. This topic is important to this field as it facilitates the collection of data about the direct impact of substance use on the development of the body and brain of these teenagers. Adolescence is a developmental phase that makes these individuals vulnerable as these substances may rewire their brains. Objectives The objective of this webinar is to create awareness among the key players who have an impact on the development of an adolescent. It ensures that these individuals have the tools and skills to reduce the prevalence of substance use among teenagers. It expects these individuals to use this knowledge to play a proactive role in the process of diagnosis, management, and treatment of this disorder. It will allow the relevant parties to come together to reduce the prevalence of substance use among this age group. It will ensure that these parties are engaged through open-ended questions and detailed questionnaires. Target audience This webinar’s target audience is teachers, and parents, who play significant roles in defining the norms and morals that define this teenager’s behavior. This audience will benefit from the diversity that will result from the different perspectives of these two groups. These individuals will have different perspectives that will help them come up with effective strategies in the process of diagnosis, management, and treatment of substance abuse among these teens. They will play a proactive role and they will monitor these teens in the home and school environment and be at the forefront of managing any stress or pressure that may result from these environments. Therefore, they will play an effective role in reducing the prevalence of substance abuse by giving these teens the support they need.
Best practices The developmental effect of substance use among teenagers can be minimized by reducing the prevalence of this substance use among this age group. This prevalence can be minimized by giving these teens the tools they need to manage the stress and pressure associated with the socialization process. It's estimated that 50% of teens in the United States have misused drugs at least once. These teens state the reasons for substance abuse include curiosity, peer pressure, trying to forget their issues, and trying to express their independence. Some of the consequences of using these substances include poor academics, delinquency, and an adverse impact on their physical and mental health. The prevalence of adolescent substance abuse can be significantly reduced by empowering these teens and giving them the skills and tools to resist peer pressure, seek professional help, foster strong family and friend relationships taking time for self-care learning healthy coping skills These strategies are subject to parents and teachers understanding how substance abuse develops. This knowledge will help these individuals create an environment that limits temptation and peer pressure. They should also foster an environment that encourages these teens to seek help from the relevant individuals when they face significant obstacles in the process of socialization. They should provide an environment that reduces the stereotype associated with seeking help for mental illness. They should not be ashamed to seek help when they suffer from anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder. These teens should be taught how to achieve a well-balanced life. Hence, they should practice stress management skills that will help them navigate the socialization process. Ethics, cultural, and diversity Ethics These parents and teachers will face ethical issues as they try to identify and diagnose substance use and abuse. They will have to infringe on the privacy of these teens as they try to identify the symptoms that will allow them to diagnose this disorder. These teachers, parents, and
teens will have to find a balance between independence and privacy as they try to reduce the prevalence of substance abuse among this age group. Some of these adults will require informed consent to access the various devices and accounts that will give them an idea of what these teens are doing. This process will also be subject to parent’s and student’s rights in the given environment. These ethical issues will be solved through the agreement between these adults and teenagers. Their independence will be subject to giving their parents access to their social media accounts and devices. This process will involve ethical decision-making models subject to the appropriate ethical and legal issues. Cultural The prevalence of Substance abuse among this age group is subject to cultural perspectives. It recognizes the stress and pressure that result from the socialization process. These cultural issues include parenting styles, parental supervision, and family diversity. The cultural perspective recognizes the norms, and morals that define what this culture finds acceptable. It also recognizes the biases and stereotypes that limit the diagnosis, management, and treatment of the identified disorder. Diversity It is apparent through the different perspective that results from these two main parties that affect the behavior of these teens. These teachers and parents will have to combine their resources in an effort to diagnose, manage, and treat this substance abuse. Diversity is also evident as it affects the issues that these teenagers face in the socialization process. These teens are subject to poor peer relationships, academic difficulties, health-related problems, and involvement with the juvenile justice system. Collaborative efforts These parents and teachers will collaborate in the process of reducing the prevalence of substance abuse among this age group. They will collaborate to ensure these teens have the skills and tools to navigate the pressure and stress they encounter in the socialization process. They should create an all-inclusive environment at home and school that allows these teens to seek help when they encounter a hurdle they cannot overcome.
