Surname1 Name Instructor Course Date Human Service My agency would encompass the National Association of Social Workers, which aims to develop its members' professional capabilities, skills, and expertise. The National Association of Social Workers operates under ethical standards to guide the relationship between social workers and their clients (Reamer) . The ethical code of conduct guides the interaction between the client and the social worker. Some ethical codes of conduct directing the agency's operations are service, competence, dignity, and worth of the person, social justice, integrity, and importance of human relations. On service, social workers seek to serve their clients above self-interests. On competence social workers serve in their areas of competencies. The dignity and worth of the person require the social worker to respect the dignity and worth of the client. The social justice principle calls for professional social workers to challenge social injustices. The integrity principle calls upon social workers to behave in a trustworthy manner. Lastly, the importance of human relations requires social workers to make human relations a vital aspect of the services. The three ethical standards dealt with frequently in the case presented are service, importance of human relations, and integrity. Social workers responsible for serving Mr. Jairo on the service should meet the client's interests as their first priority (Reamer) . As social workers, the client's interests should come before their interests. On the importance of human relations,
Surname2 the service offered to Mr. Jairo relies heavily on the relationship between the social workers and the client. Mr. Jairo is a lonely man, and this is what social workers should propose to address. A good relationship with the client would set a good foundation for the project's success. Integrity is a virtue that plays a vital role in building healthy relationships as social workers behave trustworthy, making the client trust them. In this particular setting, each of the three ethical principles will be applied differently to make the process successful. For instance, on service, Mr. Jairo's interests and needs will be prioritized, and no other task should hinder social workers from serving Mr. Jairo. Regarding the importance of relationships, social workers should treat Mr. Jairo as a family member. Showing him compassion, love, and care just to create a good relationship with him for a positive outcome. Lastly, being trustworthy would make Mr. Jairo trust and support the social workers through cooperation and acknowledging their efforts. Loneliness and lack of emotional support is the problem that needs to be addressed. However, the issue is the tense relationship between Mr. Jairo and his drug-addicted son. This poses an ethical issue as the issue is private and deserves some privacy. From the ethical code of conduct, a dilemma exists in that no matter how well we try to solve the issue; it may not be fully addressed without involving his son. Mr. Jairo needs to be closer to a member of his family for emotional support. As per the ethical regulations recognized by the law, disclosing his health condition to a third party without his consent is an offense. I will thus consult professionals in the field, like senior counselors, doctors, and other professionals, on how to approach the issue. In such a situation, I have two options: disclosing the information to the son and working closely with him for the client's health, respecting the confidentiality principle, and leaving the son out of the process. If I ignore the son, there is a high chance that the process may be
Surname3 unsuccessful as the client will lack emotional support from a family member. Sharing the information with the son and other professionals would infringe on the client's right to privacy, and I can be sued for that. The best action is to discuss the matter with him to get his views. I will tell him everything about the session and then leave it to him to give consent for me to share their details for the sake of his health. Working with the client has helped me know the different approaches I should use in handling issues where a dilemma is observed. I can't change my approach if the situation reoccurs, as I am confident I did the right thing.
