1. Provide two variables in your personal or professional life that you believe are correlated and explain why you believe there is a correlation. Two variables in my personal life that I believe are correlated are the number of hours I spend studying and my academic performance. I believe there is a correlation between these two variables because the more time I dedicate to studying, the better my academic performance tends to be. This correlation is based on the understanding that studying for a longer duration allows me to cover a greater amount of material, engage in active learning strategies, and improve long-term memory formation. 2. Explain if this correlation is positive or negative and why you believe this. The correlation between the number of hours spent studying and academic performance is positive. As I invest more time in studying, my academic performance tends to improve. This positive correlation is supported by the fact that spending more time studying leads to a deeper understanding of the subjects, enhanced retention and recall during exams, and the opportunity to engage in active learning strategies that improve comprehension and critical thinking skills. 3. Do you believe the correlation between these variables indicates the change in one variable is causing the change in the other? Why or why not? While there is a positive correlation between studying hours and academic performance, it does not necessarily indicate that the change in one variable is causing the change in the other. There could be other factors at play, such as individual motivation, prior knowledge, learning styles, and the effectiveness of study techniques. Additionally, the direction of causality can be unclear, as students with better academic performance may be more motivated to invest more time in
studying. Therefore, further research and analysis are needed to establish a causal relationship between these variables.
