2 Juvenile Recommendation Week 9 Renee's situation needs a comprehensive approach to address her safety and the underlying causes of her delinquent behavior. One of the essential factors to consider is that Renee is from a troubled home environment, which might significantly contribute to her delinquency. Evaluating the safety of her current home environment is vital in ensuring that she is not exposed to neglect or abuse. If necessary, alternative arrangements should be made to place her in a safe and stable environment, such as with a relative, group home, or foster care (Mwangangi, 2019). Renee should also receive a customized treatment plan that can help address her behavioral issues and improve her emotional regulation. This approach includes individual and family counseling, substance abuse treatment through therapy, and educational and vocational opportunities (Brogan et al., 2022). The most common causes of juvenile delinquency include family challenges, mental health issues, and peer influence. Children who grow up in environments with family problems such as neglect, family conflict, abuse, or parental substance use are more likely to engage in delinquent behaviors since they feel neglected and unsupported (Yao, 2021). Another significant factor that can lead to juvenile delinquency is mental health issues. Juveniles with mental health problems such as anxiety or depression may struggle with emotional regulation and impulse control, increasing their likelihood of engaging in delinquent behaviors (Nyarko, 2019). Lastly, peer influence plays a significant role in juvenile delinquency since juveniles associating with deviant peers may feel pressure to engage in delinquent activities to fit in (Brogan et al., 2022). These delinquent activities may include theft, vandalism, and substance use. One of the most notable differences between juvenile and adult criminal justice systems is that the primary focus for juveniles is rehabilitation to prevent future delinquent behavior,
3 while for adults is punishment and deterrence. Additionally, while the adult criminal justice system is transparent, the juvenile system protects the identity of the juvenile offender by restricting access to their records.
