His Story: My Journey
Lost is an understatement when I describe my life before Christ. All it took was one summer camp in a small town in Ohio with one song that used to mean so little on the last day that I felt I was ready to be saved. I felt filled with the holy spirit when “How Great Is our God” by Chris Tomlin played and I will confidently say that song saved me. I felt hope, security, and Joy when it came on knowing that this moment was a cannon event in Gods plan for me. The specific bar from the song that I claim saved me is as stated:
“
Age to age, He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the end
Beginning and the end.”
Beginning and the end is not just part of a song but rather the plan that God revealed to us in the bible with him always being there. It takes a lot of faith to accept that our lives are in the hands of someone that has been here since before the beginning and will until the end. In a Guy M. Richards paper, The Doctrines of Creation,
he helps explain God’s eternity by stating “before anything else in the universe existed, God already was. Nothing brought him into being. Nothing gave him existence.” I think Proverbs 16:9, “In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps,” is a more reassuring and easier to understand for new believers because it reminds us that in the grand scheme of things, our lives are in God’s hands.

In the beginning God made all things in the world perfect and precise to his image (Genesis 1-2). The universe was God's canvas, displaying the masterpiece of His creative wisdom and unfathomable love for us. Especially when it came to creating man and women when he made us in his image and likeness (Genesis 1:27-28). As God’s creation, we were made to celebrate him and his glory for giving us life and free will and to do as he instructed. Unfortunately, Adam and eve fell into temptation and did the one thing God instructed them not to do with eating the forbidden fruit. It didn’t take long after in the bible to start what we call “The Fall.” As it built up like an avalanche, the world started turning away from God and becoming an eviler place that God did not want in his creation (Genesis 6:5).
As sinners we should be bound for hell for being disobedient towards God (Romans 6:23). In a Lehman Strauss article, Doctrines of Sin, he states sin in the Old Testament as, “… not simply missing the right mark, but hitting the wrong mark. Sin may take many forms, and (they) were aware of the particular form(s) which sin did take.” Sin takes many forms, and we are responsible for understanding these forms it may come in, yet that’s not what happened at that time. It is something no man can avoid but has to accept and repent. As Charles Spurgeon put it in his New Park Street
Pulpit Volume 4, “If I hate sin because of the punishment, I have not repented of sin, I merely regret that God is just.” The only way to repent though is through Jesus, who is the Messiah that was heavily talked about in the Old Testament. Prophets talked about Jesus as a the one who is to come and be “like God” (Isaiah 7:14).
Jesus was the perfect person who was both human and God. He lived a perfect, sinless life so he could be used as God’s sacrifice to us to pay for our sins (1 Peter 2:24). Three days after death, death couldn’t hold him, and he rose from the dead. In a Gerald O’Collins book, Resurrection of Christ
, St. Augustine saw the resurrection as a pivotal event in God’s plan of

salvation, providing hope for believers and show that God is greater than death. From the day Christ rose and on we have been able to claim our salvation through Jesus to save us from eternal
death in hell (John 3:16). He gave us that promise which comes with his promise of coming back
and saving all who repented on judgment day. Those who are saved are promised eternal life in paradise where we will be able to walk with Christ and others who have followed (Matthew 25:46).
Gods story has changed my life forever. I am proud to say that we have an eternal God that loves us and has saved us. Knowing that his book is backed by archaeology and has been right about historical events time and time again only pushes me closer to him. I am fully committed to doing everything I do for him knowing he is with me. My goal as I continue college is to finish what I started and do what God has called me for and help the people in need through athletic training. Whether its school, sports, or work, I am doing it for him because he has a plan and I’m all in on this journey and gift of life God has presented me.
