(a) Share 7 things that Mann says in the three video lectures for this week that you find helpful and/or interesting, and briefly explain your selections. For full credit, your response should demonstrate that you have watched all three video lectures.
For citations, simply include a short title of the video in parenthesis. Also, the ideas that you share should include enough detail that they clearly are found in these particular lectures.
1.
In the video (Jesus “fulfilling” the law), I found it helpful to understand that the word “Play-ra-oh” has the meaning of being filled up or “that there is something, and something else comes and fits perfectly with it” (00:52). This provides the perspective that Jesus did not “fulfill” the law in the sense that he completed it but
rather fit into it.
2.
I thought it was helpful when Mann used the coffee pot to fill the vase as to demonstrate the way in which Jesus was meant to fit into or “Play-ra-oh” with the scripture in such a way that was not confused with completion or fulfillment in the
English terminology. (Jesus “fulfilling” the law 5:20)
3.
I found it interesting that Mann mentions how in order to understand Jesus it is important to understand scripture. He also mentions that if you don't understand scripture, it is more difficult to understand what Jesus is doing. (Jesus “fulfilling” the law 5:41) I feel that this reiterated the perspective that Jesus and the scripture are meant to be in unison rather than standalone.
4.
When Mann mentions how the word Torah is translated to the word teaching. In other words the Torah was created with the intention to instruct rather than to demand. I found this interesting since I had previously understood it as being a less flexible.(Mann: Intro to Torah and Shalom)
5.
I found it interesting when it was pointed out that the structure to psalm 119. I only wonder why the translation was not kept. Did it not make sense in english to translate? (Mann: Intro to Torah and Shalom) I understand the concept was kept,
I just find myself a bit lost in understanding the way the alphabet acrostic and why it wasn’t created in english for translation purposes.
6.
I felt it was helpful to understand that the word Shalom is translated to “a state of your life is unconditionally positive” understanding this meaning assists in the understanding of what was meant for those who love God’s Torah. (Mann: Intro to Torah and Shalom)
7.
In the (Intro to Brueggemann on covenant) I found it interesting that the word covenant was more selfless than I expected. The way it takes the “stronger person and convinces them to be available to the weak” is such a powerful message and important piece of information for those who wish to understand more about the way these relationships were intended to be.

week, and briefly explain your selections. For full credit, your response should demonstrate that you have read all three pdf lectures.

1.
I found it helpful when Mann mentions that “God’s laws sometimes work with culture” because this is a reminder that the scripture is not necessarily a one size
fits all.
2.
I found it helpful to understand that in (
An Introduction to the Death Torah) it is mentioned that “God attaches death to some of the most important laws. He does this because he really wants Israel to follow these laws
, but not because he
perpetually looking for reasons to kill them when they disobey” as this takes away from the perspective that God is a rageful or wrathful God, and allows the perspective that God is only intending for people to not wish to disobey.
3.
I found it interesting in (
Three Important Ideas about Covenant from Brueggemann) that it mentioned how a covenant is both conditional and unconditional as I mostly confuse the word covenant for love. And to understand that one can love unconditionally
while being conditional in covenant was an eye opener. (c) Share one question that can be raised in light of the content in these sections, in your opinion.
●
Is a covenant being conditional and unconditional contradictory on purpose and is it always meant to be that way in any scenario?
