SG The Gathering of Israel
___Yes ___ No
– I memorized Article of Faith #10 prior to class. What are three things President Nelson would like you to know and understand about the gathering from
his 2018 Hope of Israel
message to the youth of the Church of Jesus Christ? Please reference and explain your answers. 1.
Remembering Premortal Commitments: President Nelson emphasizes the importance of understanding our premortal existence and the commitments we made before coming to earth. He
suggests that if we could remember our premortal life, including our interactions with Heavenly Parents and Jesus Christ, as well as the covenants we made, it would provide us with increased power, commitment, and eternal perspective to overcome challenges. This understanding helps us
recognize the significance of our mortal experiences and the missions we agreed to fulfill on earth.
2.
Fulfilling Mortal Missions: President Nelson highlights the idea that everyone has a unique mission to fulfill while on earth. He encouraged the youth to actively engage in finding and fulfilling their mortal missions, which may involve making sacrifices, choosing to follow Jesus Christ, repenting daily, and partaking of the sacrament weekly. By aligning our actions with our divine missions, we can contribute to the gathering of Israel and prepare ourselves for the Second Coming of the Savior.
3.
Enlisting in the Youth Battalion: Finally, President Nelson extended an invitation to the youth to enlist in the Lord's youth battalion to help gather Israel. He outlines five specific invitations for them to follow, including doing a seven-day fast from social media, making a weekly sacrifice of time to the Lord, keeping on the covenant path, praying daily for the spread of the gospel, and standing out as disciples of Jesus Christ. By accepting this invitation and actively participating in the work of gathering Israel, everyone can play a significant role in fulfilling God's purposes for this generation.
Search in the online scriptures
the word “
gather
” and look through all of the references in the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine & Covenants containing this word. Share below three significance teachings you learn from a few of these scriptures about the gathering? 1.
D&C 29:1-2 “Listen to the voice of Jesus Christ…Who will gather his people even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, even as many as will hearken to my voice and humble themselves before me and call upon me in mighty prayer.” One thing we learn from this scripture is that it is Christ who is doing the gathering. Often times he will work through other people or through the scriptures, however, it is still him who brings us back to safety. 2.
D&C 33:6 “And even so will I gather mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, even as many as will believe in me, and hearken unto my voice.” Gathering is not just for the saints in Utah or even America. God is gathering his people from all Nations, tongues, and people. The elect is all those who will believe and listen to God, and if we are willing to do this he will gather us back home.
3.
D&C 43:24 “O, ye nations of the earth, how often would I have gathered you together as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, but ye would not!” This scripture uses the same metaphor, however, it has a different message. This verse teaches us that not everyone will gather at the last day. Some people will refuse even as Christ comes again. We do not want to be the ones the Lord is referring to here. Questions: 1.
When will Zion become a real place again?
2.
How can we still apply President Nelsons talk when we are no longer youth.
