Surname 1 BIBL 107 Professor LEADERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS Date Leadership Qualification Many people will aspire to become a leader but true leadership stems from the Christian principles that should govern the actions of an inspiring leader. The leaders in the Bible show strong leadership styles and skills that are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Based on these lessons in Timothy, Peter and Titus I have realized that the leaders do not always fit the stereotypical mold of being strong or assertive. For Timothy, there is the reality of the strength of a true leader behind the weak and somewhat sickly personality. In fact, the lesson learned through Peter’s reflection on Timothy is that the strength of a leader lies in his mental abilities and the heart - felt emotions. These qualities allow a true leader to become compassionate and to empathize with those he leads. Titus, on the other hand, suggests that the leader must be trustworthy so as to persuade those he leads to follow the teachings of the Bible and to disprove those who oppose the teachings of the Bible (Titus 1:6-9). Based on the selected readings true leadership comes with a spiritual connection that would allow me to become a faultless less leader as I would have adopted the quality of goodness, “faith and Holy Spirit” (Acts 6:5). While Timothy is soft, Titus is more outspoken and passionate about the tasks he must undertake. In my experiences, most leaders in today’s society believe that a true leader must be willing and ready to accept the tough tasks with strength and passion. But the truth is that leaders are born with different qualities that help them to lead in different ways. In the modern society, leaders fall in similar categories as those of the Bible. For many leaders, having a good character is important. But with that good character, one must be strong and outspoken and be ready to assert authority. The truth though is that leaders are more than the physical looks of strength,
Surname 2 charisma, outspoken and best-looking. The Bible teaches that leaders find strength, integrity and sound moral and ethical principles. Having read the selected scriptures, my perception of a leader has changed significantly. For the most part, I have always been impressed with the strong leaders as these strong leaders have been able to maintain a strong presence among those that they lead. In addition, I have always believed that leaders must fit the description of one who is strong and who must be able to manipulate the group that he or she controls. But, the reality is that the true leader is one that is above reproach, in control of personal feelings, a teacher, a learner, respectful and respectable and be respectful of the laws of the society. The leader in the church must also fall into the role of a Christian leader and must be able to stand up and follow the God’s dictates for a good leader. Paul specifically reflects on the role of the leaders in the church as one that puts the leader in a position that is above blame and should be the first to be tested (1 Timothy 3:10). Without this biblical testing of strength and integrity, one will not truly be a Christian – based leader, one will lack the true skills of leadership. Of course, I believe that no one is at the level or will ever be able to become a flawless and righteous leader, but everyone can aspire to become a leader of such caliber.
