Reading Report 2: Small: Calvinism versus the Word of God
I have carefully and completely read all of the pages for this assignment. This is my own first-
time work. I have not used any part of another person’s work to complete this assignment.

Significant Ideas from Author
1.
There are 5 main points to Calvinism, and these points are the structure and base of its beliefs. The points spell out T.U.L.I.P. These letters stand for the following: Total Inability, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Perseverance of the Saints. (p 2)
2.
Unconditional election is a big one that contradicts the Bible. It is an attack on the sanctification of the believers, on the glorification of the believers, and on the Great Commission of believers. The biggest thing that it attacks though is the doctrine of the holiness of God. The Bible teaches that God is not willing that any should perish, but Calvinists teach that some God’s will is to send some to heaven and some to hell. (p 12)
3.
Irresistible grace has been disproved. It is disproved by Proverbs 1 that tells us that men do have the ability to resist God. God has given us a free will. He is sovereign, yet still allows us to choose. (p 37)
Statements of Personal Benefit
1.
The argument about limited atonement reminded me that Christ died for everyone. There is not a single person that He did not die for. Calvinists teach that He only dies for
His elect, but the Bible teaches that He has died and given eternal life to whosoever believe in Him. (p 15)
2.
This reading report has taught me to compare doctrines with Scripture. This reading has pointed out the main aspects of Calvinism but has compared them to the Word of God. It
is a great reminder to always compare things to His Word as our guide. All 5 points of Calvinism are false, and they specifically contradict specific Bible doctrines. (p 41)
