Report
Teach a Friend Report Name : Annabella Policicchio Who did you teach : Friend (just specify the relation to you, i.e. – neighbor, friend at work, etc.) Instructions Write your responses to the items below. Make sure to answer each of the questions in your responses. Note that the minimum word count for full credit is 150 words (total of all responses). Your instructor will grade you according to the grading rubric in the assignment in your course. When referencing a passage, include the citation and paste the actual passage into your response. If the passage is long, just cite it and abbreviate or summarize it so the reader knows what the passage is about but it doesn’t take up too many lines on this report. Note - boxes will expand as you type Describe your experience: Provide a thoughtful reflection of your experience. What gospel principle from this week’s lesson did you teach? Include specific quotes or references to scripture or prophetic teachings that you used. How did it go? How did you feel while teaching and afterward? What reaction or feedback did you receive? What teaching methods did you use (thought-provoking question, discussion, game, object lesson, video, other method)? 1. My experience teaching about the second coming of Jesus Christ has been deeply meaningful and rewarding. From the Bible, I have emphasized Jesus's promise in Mark 13:26. In the Book of Mormon, I have drawn attention to 1 Nephi 14:14, “And it came to pass that I beheld that the wrath of God was poured out upon that great and abominable church, insomuch that there were wars and rumors of wars among all the nations and kindreds of the earth.” I have also shared prophetic teachings from modern-day prophets, such as Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s words in his April 2017 General Conference talk, “My beloved brothers and sisters, the signs of the Second Coming are all around us.” I also focused on the hopeful promises that come with the Second Coming promised in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. As I taught about this topic, I emphasized the joy and peace that will come with the Second Coming. This message of hope and assurance was incredibly comforting to my friend. 2. It was a really rewarding experience; I felt blessed to be able to share the knowledge I have gained from studying the scriptures. I was very passionate about the topic and did my best to explain the importance of Jesus’ return and how it will affect each of us individually. The person I was teaching responded positively. They were engaged in the lesson and asked relevant questions. They seemed to understand the material and appreciated the time I spent explaining the concept. They thanked me for my efforts and said they would continue to study what I had taught them. Overall, the experience was very fulfilling. It was a great reminder of the importance of teaching the gospel and helping others come to a greater understanding of Jesus Christ. I felt proud of myself for being able to share my knowledge, and the person I was teaching seemed to benefit from the lesson. 3. I chose to use a combination of thought-provoking questions, discussion, and visual teaching aids, such as videos, to teach the second coming of Jesus Christ. To start, I asked my friend several open-ended questions to get her thinking about the topic. For example, I asked her to consider what the Bible says about Jesus’s return, how it might look different from what she expects, and how she can prepare for it. This allowed my friend to think critically about the topic and consider
how it relates to her own life. After the initial thought-provoking questions, I held a discussion with my friend to get her ideas and opinions. Finally, I used an object lesson to illustrate the importance of Jesus’s return. I used a candle to represent Jesus and a piece of paper to represent the world. I lit the candle and explained that when Jesus returns, His light will once again shine in the world. I then extinguished the candle and explained that the world can become dark and chaotic without Jesus’s light. The object lesson helped to bring the concept of Jesus’s return to life and emphasize its importance. Describe the insights you gained: What did you learn from this experience about being a teacher of the gospel? What deeper insights or understanding of the principle(s) being taught did you gain from teaching the principle(s) to another person? 1. This experience has taught me that being a teacher of the gospel is a sacred and important responsibility. As a teacher of the gospel, I am called to be an example of Jesus Christ and to share His gospel with others. I have learned that a teacher of the gospel must be patient, kind, and faithful in order to teach effectively. It is important to be aware of the needs and interests of those I am teaching and to strive to meet those needs. I have also learned that it is important to listen to and learn from the members of my class and to be understanding and accommodating to their individual needs. Finally, I have learned the importance of being humble and prayerful in my teaching, always relying on the Spirit to guide my lessons and to help me share the gospel in a way that is meaningful and inspiring to those I am teaching. 2. Mosiah 4:30, has taught me that as a teacher of the gospel, I must be wise in my teaching and be diligent in my efforts to share the gospel. I must be patient and humble in my teaching and strive to do my best to help those I am teaching learn the gospel. As a teacher of the gospel, I must also be faithful in my efforts to share the gospel and strive to win the prize of eternal life. Through teaching the Second Coming to someone else, I was able to gain a more in-depth understanding of the scriptures and the events leading up to the Second Coming. I was able to explain the passages more thoroughly and in greater detail than I had ever done before. Through teaching the second coming to another person, I was able to gain a better understanding of the importance of the second coming and why it is essential to our faith. I was also able to gain a better appreciation for the different interpretations of the second coming. I was able to understand different perspectives on the events leading up to the second coming, as well as the meaning behind the events.
