Case Study Option (A, B, C, or D)
: Case C
Instructions
The purpose of this assignment is to apply your knowledge and deepen your learning
by responding to real life examples that you or others may face in defending the Proclamation and the eternal family
.
Your response to the case study you have chosen may be written in essay format, or you may choose to write your response as if you were speaking or writing directly to someone facing the situation described. Your response must show thought, reflection, pondering, and depth, and be presented with college-level writing skills. The following should be integrated into your response:
The gospel doctrines or principles that are involved in the case study, and how they help to clarify and give direction in addressing the situation.
Messages from scripture, the proclamation, and the course readings for the current unit of study that address the dilemma and how those messages would be helpful.
Your own suggestions and ideas about actions that would be helpful in addressing the issue.
Your response must include:
At least four references,
each from a
different talk or article
in the current course readings. These may be direct quotes or paraphrases of statements, and must include appropriate in-text citations. (See Good Writing Practices for REL 200
)
A pertinent passage from the Proclamation
A scripture
that would support your thoughts and ideas
As an option,
you may choose to use two statements from two of the most recent General Conference addresses in place of two references from the current course readings
Be sure to connect the references to your thoughts and discuss why or how the reference helps to address the situation in the case study
. These assignments help you to dig deeply into the readings for the course and to show your understanding of the content, but they are not a place to simply regurgitate what you have learned. Please have at least 50% or more of the text be your thoughts and comments. It may be helpful to bold
or use a different color of text for your references and citations. This will help you see how much of the text is from quotes and words of others and how much is your own words.
Case Study Report
In 1-2 page(s), write a response to the case study that you have chosen and that meets the requirements explained above.
Thank you for having the confidence to speak with me about this topic that I know can be quite difficult for you
right now. The Family A Proclamation to the World tells us in paragraph number 7 that the family is ordained of
God, so we must understand that it is an important foundation in the plan of our heavenly Father and ourselves.

Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson Says “Life rarely goes exactly according to plan for anyone” (Bonnie L. Oscarson
“Defenders of the Family Proclamation”). In this life, as Sister Bonnie shares, it does not go normally as we
planned, we have difficulties and sometimes we go through trials that we think are too great for us. So you must
always do your part and do your work in the eyes of God, in the family, a proclamation to the world in paragraph
number 8 tells us: “We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring,
or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the
disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by
ancient and modern prophets.” From what we can read, it refers to us that if you worked hard at all times for
your family and fulfilled every part of your purpose as a father, the Lord will be pleased, since you cannot make
decisions for others, you must strive to continue fulfilling your role as a father of your family, and feel calm if
you did everything of yourself to fulfill your responsibilities as a husband.
About the fact that sometimes you feel that you are judged, we must share with others that the same principles
of the gospel and the family, a proclamation to the world, we must apply them outside of our family or children,
we must understand that sometimes difficult situations occur that lead to the separation of a family and we
must put into practice in front of our brothers and sisters love and compassion for them since we must think
that things happen that are sometimes difficult to know and which lead to that, as Elder Richard G. Scott shares:
“Some matters are so sensitive and intensely personal and can awaken such disturbing feelings that they are
seldom mentioned publicly”(Richard G. Scott “To Heal the Shattering Consequences of Abuse”).
To overcome the problem you have faced, you must move forward with faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and strive
to fulfill your responsibilities as a parent, you must be like the savior as shared in the article “What is Abuse”:
“He delighted in the happiness of others, the happiness He could bring them. He was forever kind.” (What is
Abuse). Strive to always follow in the footsteps of the Savior, and before you let yourself be affected by the
problems you have or the things others say, strive to go ahead and follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
Even though you are currently separated from your wife or husband, you should continue to apply the principles
of the proclamation in your life, for as Elder M Russell Ballard says, "Since we are all part of one family, the
proclamation applies to everyone” (M. Russell Ballar “What Matters Most is What Lasts Longest"). This is a
principle that you can continue to apply in your life, and you should strive to fulfill every role that falls to you
according to the proclamation.
Finally, in the face of the situation you are going through, I think that the following writing can help you D&C
122:7 “Know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good."
Remember that all the tribulations you face in this life are for your progress.
