Jessica Amaker WRSP 101 R EADING R EFLECTION J OURNAL : W HAT J ESUS S AID A BOUT W ORSHIP T EMPLATE Based on John MacArthur’s Book , Worship: The Ultimate Priority, Chapters 9-12 Noteable Quote: “A Christian can worship Him at the beach, in the mountains, driving down the road, sitting under a tree, walking in the woods, running in the country, sitting in the living room, in a church building, or anywhere under any kind of circumstance or condition. The spere of worship is unlimited.” Citation: John MacArthur, Worship: The Ultimate Priority, (Chicago: Moody Publishers, 2012) ch. 10. Bibliography: MacArthur, John. Worship: The Ultimate Priority. Chicago, Moody Publishers, 2012. Main Points: Chapter 9: Jesus came to do away with the old covenant and sacrificial systems and implement the New Covenant, which implemented a new way to worship. Chapter 10: We are living temples of God, and when the church comes together, He is in their midst, and they are his dwelling place. Chapter 11: The only way to properly worship the Father is to worship the son, understanding that God is the Father of Jesus Christ. Page 1 of 2
Jessica Amaker WRSP 101 Chapter 12: Authentic worship is a function of the heart and at its foundation is salvation. Worshiping in spirit and truth is an overflow of our understanding of God as He has revealed Himself in the word. Reflection on the Reading: I agree wholeheartedly with the author’s position. The foundation of worship is found through true understanding of who God is and our response to his holiness. Understanding that God is the Father of Jesus Christ and that no man can come to the Father apart from him sets a foundational expectation of salvation through Christ. In addition, realizing that the old covenant has been destroyed and the new covenant through Jesus is applicable to our lives today changes the perspective of how we are to worship Holy God. Living everyday in worship to God through all that we do, understanding who He is and how unworthy we are. God has taught me about our bodies as living temples, and how we can always worship God in all places and. In addition, he has taught me more about the realization of having areas in our lives that are not pure in the sight of God. Prompt/Paragraph 3: What actions do you believe God would have you take to apply these principles to your public and private worship? (Your answers should not be italicized.) God is calling me to a deeper worship, through studying His word and through repentance of areas in my life that are not pure in His sight. The Lord is providing awareness on these topics so that I may grow closer to Him and so that I may more effectively share the gospel with others and testify of His goodness. Page 2 of 2
