W11 Assignment: Spiritual Warfare
Spend 1 hour
studying the scriptures listed below. Complete the table by writing an insight or principle from the physical battle (complete for all nine of the scripture on the left) to use in spiritual contests.
Scripture to read
Insight or principle that can be applied from the physical battle to spiritual contests
Mosiah 10:10-17
Example:
Just as the Lamanites hated the Nephites because of faulty assumptions that they had been taught, many of those who hate the Church
and seek to attack my testimony do so not so much because they are evil as
much as misguided. Knowing this will help me love and understand those who mock things that are sacred to me. It also gives me a secret for engaging them--identify and correct false things they have been taught about me.
Alma 43
Example:
During my battles there will surely be times that I will be exhausted and in danger. I will be well-served if I can remember the consequences of victory and defeat. If I remember that I stay strong and committed for my society, my family, my liberty, and my love of God (Alma 43:9) I will endure better and longer. My efforts will impact more than just me and will ripple forward in my life to increasing freedom or bondage depending on how I fight. When I am tempted to quit, I will inspire myself by
a better cause—even my home, family, liberty, and rites of worship (Alma 43:45). When I start to shrink, I will think on these things and stand against Satan with power (Alma 43:48–50).
Alma 44:1–5
As believers, we may face criticism and opposition from those who do not share our beliefs. Yet, we must remain steadfast in our faith and stand up for what we believe in. Our unwavering faith in Christ will keep us strong and help us overcome any challenges that come our way.
Alma 46:1–21
Look out for false idols and churches that may lead us astray from the truth of Christ. The world is filled with wickedness, and we need
to protect our hearts and spirits in order to discern what is evil. False teachings have the potential to slowly erode the foundation of the church that God has provided for His children. As His children, we must remain vigilant and cautious. We should also share the gospel and extend invitations to others.
Alma 47:1–18
As humans, we all have our weaknesses, and Satan knows exactly how to exploit them to lead us astray. He is constantly devising new ways to tempt us and lure us away from the path of righteousness. However, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can discern Satan's traps and avoid falling into them. The spirit provides us with clarity and helps us stay on the right path, even when the enemy tries to lead us astray.
Alma 48:1–9
Over time, consistent small efforts can lead to big results. Simple actions performed consistently can yield great outcomes by putting
in a little effort regularly.
Alma 49:1–5
Moroni took measures to protect himself and his people from their strongest opponents. Even when threatened with murder, Moroni remained steadfast. The Lamanites were surprised to see that the Nephites had established a secure and well-organized place that could not be easily harmed.
Alma 53:5, 9
When we remain loyal and obedient to the Lord, He becomes our guide and protector. He leads us on the path of righteousness and shields us from harm. By following His commandments and relying
on His strength, we can overcome any obstacle and find peace in our lives. He watches over us, helps us make difficult decisions, and
gives us the strength to endure trials. It is only by trusting in Him that we can experience the fullness of His protection and guidance in our lives.
Alma 57:8–12
Trusting in the Lord's timing can help us develop patience, which in turn enables us to witness growth and discover small blessings that
He has in store for us. Sometimes, it can be difficult to wait for things to happen, but by trusting in His plan, we can find comfort and peace in knowing that everything will work out for us.
Alma 59:9
It's always better to maintain something than to struggle to regain it once it's lost. Therefore, it's important to do everything in our power to ensure that we don't lose what we already have.
Alma 62:41
Times of hardship have the power to transform us, either for the better or worse. Nonetheless, we have the option to remain humble
and allow those trials to refine us, rather than succumbing to misery and self-pity. We can rely on God to help us turn our weaknesses into strengths, particularly when we are facing challenging situations.
