Michael Long In Acts 9, chapters 36 through 43, Luke takes note of the miraculous healing of a female by the name of Tabitha that was conducted by Peter in Joppa. Tabitha was also known as Dorcas and had passed away. There were widows there who mourned her death and they called for Peter to come to them and help. Peter came and when he got there sent out all of those who were mourning to go pray over tabitha’s deceased body and to command her to get up to her feet. Everybody was amazed that suddenly Tabitha came back to life. This certain passage shows God’s power to perform miracles through his apostles. It also shows that there is a big importance and emphasis on compassion and being of service to other people who are in need. That is a basic summary.
And now seek to identify a principle that we can take from this passage. I guess for me uh choose to state that we can take from this passage the proof that God has power to bring new life. I’m not just talking about physical life I’m talking about spiritual life as well. He can raise the dead. This is clear and peter’s actions as he calls on the name of the Lord Jesus and simply commands Tabitha to get up and she
does what he asked her to do.
In checking I notice that commentator F.F. Bruce Has given support for this, stating that; “The fact that Tabitha has been raised from the dead show us through the apostles that the Lord can do what only he can do.” That of course was giving life to the dead. (Bruce, F.F. , The Book of Acts, NICNT, p.187). I would also like to acknowledge that this is consistent with some of the bigger themes of acts that put emphasis on the power of the Holy Spirit and how it brings new life and salvation to believers.
To wrap this up now, acts Chapter 9 verse 36 through 43 notes the power of the Lord to bring brand new life and to perform miraculous events through his apostles. I gather from that the importance of being compassionate and willing to serve as other people who need your help. With that being said, that reminds me and should remind all of us of the miraculous power the God and the Holy Spirit has over our lives to transform us from the inside out. References
