2 Modern Discovery Concerning an Ancient Religion (Judaism and Christianity) On March 16, 2021, the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, the first discovery of such an ancient biblical text in 60 years in the desert of Israel dating back almost 2,000 years and believed to have been hidden during a Jewish revolt against Rome. This archaeological find was made during an Israeli project to prevent looting in the Holy Land, which experts say has been a threat to undiscovered artifacts since the Dead Sea Scrolls were first discovered. This first set of Dead Sea Scrolls was discovered in the same area in 1947 by a Bedouin shepherd and are considered one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th century, although biblical scholars disagree on their authorship. To conduct this investigation, the researchers had to descend a treacherous cliff to reach the cave entrance, which is located 262 feet below a cliff top and flanked by gorges on either side and for parts of the cave of difficult access, drones were used. This four-year investigation has uncovered parts of the Book of the Twelve Minor Prophets (a collection that constitutes the last book of the Nevi'im of the Jewish Tanakh and the last twelve books of the Christian Bible), including the books of Zechariah and Nahum, announced the Israel Antiquities Authority. Also found in this discovery was the skeleton of a partially mummified child dating back 6,000 years and a 10,500-year-old basket that according to Israeli authorities may be the oldest in the world. A computed tomography scan showed that the child was between 6 and 12 years old, and he had partially preserved skin, tendons, and hair. It should be noted that these documents are very well preserved for the unique dry climate of the region where they were found. Other items also found were a stack of coins bearing Jewish symbols, such as harps and date palms, arrows and spearheads, woven cloth, sandals, and lice combs, which are believed to
3 date back to the late Bar Kokhba Revolt (132- 136 A.D.), in which Jews fought against Roman rule in Judea.
