As I read through 3 Nephi 11, I was struck by the powerful sequence of events that occurred during the Savior's visit to the Nephites. It is clear that every action and teaching of the Savior was carefully orchestrated for a specific purpose. In this article, I will outline the order of the Savior's actions and teachings in this chapter and discuss why I believe he did things in this particular order.
The Savior's visit to the Nephites begins with his descent from heaven and his declaration of his divinity. He then invites the people to come forth one by one to feel the prints in his hands and feet. This is followed by the Savior's command to bring forth their sick and afflicted, whom he heals. He then teaches the people the importance of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Finally, the Savior blesses the children and institutes the sacrament.
One possible reason for the specific order of events is to establish the Savior's credibility and authority. By demonstrating his divine power through healing the sick and blessing the children, the people are more likely to believe and accept his teachings. Additionally, by inviting them to feel the prints in his hands and feet, the Savior is providing physical evidence of his resurrection and the reality of his suffering for their sins.
Another reason for the order of events could be to emphasize the importance of baptism and the sacrament. By first healing the sick and blessing the children, the Savior is showing the people the importance of physical and spiritual healing. This sets the stage for his teachings on baptism, which is a
symbol of both physical and spiritual cleansing. Similarly, the sacrament, which is a renewal of baptismal covenants, comes after the Savior's teachings on baptism to reinforce its importance.
To me, the Savior's invitation for the people to come forth one by one to feel the prints in his hands and
feet is significant because it shows his love and compassion for each individual. It is a personal and intimate moment between the Savior and each person who comes forth, allowing them to have a tangible experience with him. This action also emphasizes the Savior's atonement and the individual nature of our relationship with him.
In conclusion, the sequence of events in the Savior's visit to the Nephites is carefully planned and purposeful. Each action and teaching serves to establish the Savior's credibility and authority, emphasize the importance of baptism and the sacrament, and show his love for each individual. It is a powerful example of the Savior's love and compassion for all of God's children. bn
