Standards, Objectives, and Essential Questions Standard Chosen Objectives TEKS: (13) Culture. The student understands the similarities and differences within and among cultures in various world societies. The student is expected to: (A) identify and describe common traits that define cultures and culture regions Content Objective(s): Students will be able to make connections between the 6 major religions of the world and synthesize information from the unit into a graphic organizer (foldable). ELPS: 4) Cross-curricular second language acquisition/reading (D) use prereading supports such as graphic organizers, illustrations, and pretaught topic- related vocabulary and other prereading activities to enhance comprehension of written text; (G) demonstrate comprehension of increasingly complex English by participating in shared reading, retelling or summarizing material, responding to questions, and taking notes commensurate with content area and grade level needs; Language Objective(s): Students will identify the differences between the 6 major religions using a graphic organizer. Essential Questions (Higher Order Level Thinking; at least three): 1. What are the similarities that we can see between the 6 major religions? 2. How might have Covid-19 affected people’s worship and practices of their religion? 3. Out of the 6 religions, which one is practiced the most around the world? Part II. Pre-Assessment related to TEKS and Objectives Data In order to determine the knowledge that students already have over the TEKS, ELPS, and objectives I will have my students view a PowerPoint that consists of images, questions, and information on how religion is apart of the past, present, and future culture and how it affects the lives of people all around the world. Prior Knowledge Prior knowledge that students should know before moving forward in the lesson is a basic understanding of the 6 major religions, as well as key details of each of them. Part III.
