Biblical Book Summaries: Deuteronomy 1-9, skim 10-25, 26-34
1.
I watched the Bible Project video on Deuteronomy 1-9, skim 10-25, 26-34
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMhmDPWeftw&t=3s
2.
I watched the video for 6:46 minutes. I read Deuteronomy 1-9, skim 10-25,
26-34 out loud in the ESV.
The video was about The Book of Deuteronomy
– These Were Moses Final Words from Bible Project (without distractions). 3.
The main idea of Deuteronomy is that Moses is going to die and uses his
last speech as a motivational speech to encourage the next generation of
Israelites who are going to enter the land. Moses challenges the younger
generation at the outset of his address to reject the ways of their parents
and to accept God's grace in an obedient and loving manner. Moses
employs the terms "listen" and "love," believing that allegiance to the Lord,
their God, is the only path to happiness. This also applies to the notion of
reacting to what you hear.. For Israel, this means living up to the covenant's
requirements in order to accept God's grace. Since Israel cannot obey
without love and cannot obey if they do not truly love, love is the true
motivator of obedience. With the phrase "the blessing or the course," Moses
also cautions Israel about the repercussions of both their compliance and
noncompliance. They will be blessed and abundant in the land if they listen
and love; if not, they will be driven from their home and suffer from
starvation and plagues. "I've set before you today life or death, bless our
course," is what Moses says in closing. Decide on life, then! Moses makes
this statement because he anticipates their disobedience, their failure, and
their banishment from the promised country. There is a parallel between this
and Adam and Eve, as both were blessed by God yet, like Israel, rebelled
and inflicted a curse upon the land.

I learned from this video and reading the ESV that without obedience, faith
is nothing. Christians must follow God's instructions if they hope to deepen
their faith and live according to his will. To learn how to have radical faith
and obedience while they wait for God's promises to be fulfilled, Christians
may find it helpful to read portions of the Bible that may seem dull or too old.
