WRSP 101 R EADING R EFLECTION J OURNAL : W HAT J ESUS S AID A BOUT W ORSHIP T EMPLATE Based on John MacArthur’s Book , Worship: The Ultimate Priority, Chapters 9-12 Noteable Quote: “Every believer is a living, breathing temple in which God dwells. That means believers can worship anywhere, at any time- God goes with them in abiding presence.” Citation: John F. MacArthur, Worship: The Ultimate Priority, (Chicago, IL: Moody Publishers, 1983, 2012), ch. 10. Bibliography: MacArthur, John F. Worship: The Ultimate Priority. Chicago, IL, Moody Publishers, 1983, 2012. Main Points: Chapter 9: Genuine worship doesn’t have a set of rules or is confined to a certain place- true worship comes from the heart. Chapter 10: Thanks to the New Covenant, there is no designated place for worship, it can be done anywhere (private or public) when approached the correct way. Chapter 11: It is important for believers to understand the intimate, personal God the Father and that He and Jesus are one and equal. Chapter 12: When worshipping, the Father seeks worship that is in spirit and in truth. Reflection on the Reading: Page 1 of 2
WRSP 101 I greatly agree with the author’ position. While I learned a lot in these chapters about the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman, the chapter that resonates with me the most is chapter twelve, which focuses on how to worship in Spirit and Truth. Without the Holy Spirit, worship can be vague and ingenuine. Also, worshippers must be intent in their worship to focus solely on the Lord and His goodness. Through these chapters, it was interesting to read in chapter eleven about how God is more than just a father in the way we think of our earthly fathers, but a genuine, intimate, personal father. While I have known that God is my father, I sometimes see Him in the way I see my earthly father, who can be judgmental and condescending at times. It was nice to be explained that He is the perfect Father and cannot be compared to the father we experience here on Earth. I believe God would have me dive deeper into His Word to experience Him more fully. Lately, my plate has been so heavy that I haven’t made a place for my quiet time, and I believe He is reminding me that He is intentional and relational, and I should strive to have a heart after His own- even during these overwhelmingly busy days.
