Response: The 13

benevolent, virtuous, and in doing
good
to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we

all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to
endure
all things. If there is anything
virtuous,
lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."

Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several
insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria:
1.
200–300 words in length
(please include your word count at the bottom of the section).
2.
Include at least 3 scripture references
.
Response: In this week’s lesson I got to
better understand the 13th Article of Faith. Which teaches us about
encouraging individuals to seek after things that are virtuous, lovely, of good report,
and praiseworthy. I also learned that if we as members adhere to the principle outlined in the 13
th
Article of Faith we can shape our character to be more Christ like and righteous. D&C 11:12-14 really resonated with me because they served as a reminder that the Holy Ghost will
ultimately guide me to the valuable and precious principles outlined in this article of faith. It underscored the importance of maintaining a focus on the influence of the spirit throughout each day while not neglecting the well-being of the entire family. President David O. McKay expressed, "Parents will find no more fulfilling happiness than to have their children honor them and their teachings.” Paired with that D&C 93:40-50 imparted crucial lessons about family dynamics, urging me to assist every family member in doing what is right and embracing the teachings of the gospel. It outlined the parental duty to ensure that children are raised with a deep understanding of the gospel and guided towards righteous actions. I wholeheartedly agree with Elder James E. Faust, who articulated that "Being a father or a mother is not only a great challenge, but also a divine calling. It is an effort requiring consecration." Simultaneously, President David O. McKay emphasized that being parents is "the greatest trust that has been given to human beings." I firmly believe that consistency is a
fundamental principle as we establish the groundwork for significant work in our individual lives and demonstrate increased diligence and concern within our homes. Overall, this week’s Article of Faith and various reading assignments were very eye-opening and helped me better understand how to be a better member of the church and I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. Word Count: 320 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
Temple marriage. Response: Recently I have heard that temple marriage is not always a thing that young couples or young adults strive for. While attending college I have heard many girls justifying not having a temple or marriage or claiming that it’s not as important to them as it used to be. With all the temptations around with pre-marital sex, alcohol and drugs there’s no question why young adults no longer prioritize the temple and its sacred ordinances. If we read the 13
th
Article of Faith however it says “
We
believe in being
honest, true,
chaste,
benevolent, virtuous, and in doing
good
to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we
hope
all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to
endure
all things. If there is anything
virtuous,
lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."
This meaning that as members we should continuously seek to act and partake in righteous and vitreous activities I think these truths get lost to a lot of young adults because once they go to college they no longer have their parents around constantly telling them what to do or how to act so they began to act on selfish things. To avoid this, we as members should work on growing our own testimony of the church and learn how to avoid temptations and seek our selfless activities like service. By doing this I believe that young adults will began to understand temple ordinances in the church such as temple marriage and learn how to strive for such things. By doing so our next generation of the church will be strong and we can continue
