Journal Submission 8– Alejandro Gallo Faith, Prompt #1: How do you think Mormon and Moroni’s background affected their receptiveness to the Lord’s message? Why do you think we are more receptive to the Lord’s messages for us at times and not so receptive at other times? Your response should be about 4–5 sentences. I believe that Mormon and Moroni were more receptive to the Lord’s message since they went through a lot of challenges. I believe that when we are at our lowest point there is nowhere else to go, you start reflecting and realizing how to be better from the bases. This compared to the time when we are in good times, which makes it easier to leave the message, to start thinking that we do not owe anything to the Lord. Faith, Prompt #2: There are four chapters in the Book of Mormon that use the word faith ten or more times . Take some time to do a search (the Gospel Library app or the scripture search tool on Churchofjesuschrist.org can help) for the word faith and identify these four chapters. Once you have them identified, count each time you see the word faith in each chapter (you may consider circling them). Enos 10 Alma 32, 17 ether 12, 34 Moroni 7, 25 Faith, Prompt #3: Take some time to study the first portion of this sermon, looking for what Alma teaches the Zoramites about faith. List the teachings you find in your study journal. worship our God, only once in a week? be humble, and that ye may learn wisdom seeketh repentance God is merciful unto all who believe on his name should believe, yea, even on his word. Faith, Prompt #4: Look for and analyze what Alma is teaching about experimenting on the word and its implications on faith. (3-4 sentences). Alma starts by teaching the process of developing faith. He compares the word to a seed and teaches about the impact it would have in their life. Alma is essentially telling them to improve their faith by learning and also exercising the gospel, and that they will get to a point in which they will recognize the truth and the blessings.
Faith, Prompt #5: Where is your testimony on Elder Robbins’ spectrum? What specific things will you do to strengthen your testimony? (3–4 sentences) I feel that my testimony is at 6. I have known what is true and not for quite a long time. However, usually when I hear long testimonies, I feel that they have gone through experiences that have strengthen it. I feel that I still need those experiences, and I am not asking for bad moments or afflictions, but for a power to convince others with my testimony. Faith, Prompt #6: Identify what Mormon taught about faith and make a list in your study journal. Faith leads to hope Faith is the most precious possession Miracles are conceived through faith We can be saved through faith in Jesus Christ Faith, Prompt #7: What are your thoughts on what is meant by the following statement: "Faith is a principle of action and exercising faith sometimes requires a price to be paid?" (2–3 sentences) According to Lehi’s teachings we know that we have the ability to act or to be acted upon. I believe true faith leads actions, leads desires. Furthermore, we are in the process, this means that we will sin and go through afflictions, and these require repentance. Faith, Prompt #8: Take some time to record any insights or impressions you gained form Enos' experience . I love the part in verse seven where he asks “Lord, how is it done?”. This simple question reflects a genuine interest on learning but also a humble acknowledgment of his deep commitment with the Lord. Faith, Prompt #9: What if Moroni had only chosen one example (the one you selected) to underscore the importance of faith? What would he say about it? Consider the experience itself, the background and outcome of the story, the individual characters, the words spoken (and the words not spoken), and so forth (3- 4 sentences). If Moroni had only spoken about the miraculous works performed by Ammon and his brethren, he would have focused more on the people they taught and the miracles they witnessed. The story might not capture all the complexities and beautiful outcomes of faith, but it would still highlight many significant events. Faith, Prompt #10: Identify one principle from this lesson that was most important to you. How could you implement this principle in your life?
I like these principles to grow, I am going to use a lot during my mission. Repentance, Prompt #1: Notice that the scriptures of the Restoration, most notably the Book of Mormon, mention repentance with a much greater frequency than that found individually in the Old and New Testaments. In 2-3 sentences, reflect on why this might be. What do you think the Lord’s purpose is in this focus? Focusing on repentance more in the restoration and Book of Mormon could be due to us having the fullness of the gospel in the latter days. I think that the Book of Mormon prophets saw our day and wrote accordingly. Repentance, Prompt #2: The purpose of this exercise is to demonstrate that every book in the Book of Mormon teaches the principle of repentance. Below is a table showing the frequency in which the word repentance appears in each book of the Book of Mormon. You will note from the table that the word repentance is missing from Enos, Omni, and the Words of Mormon. Quickly read one of these three books. As you do, identify a passage of scripture that demonstrates how the author teaches the principle of repentance, even though the specific word is not used. Write a short paragraph (3–4 sentences) stating how the author teaches the concept of repentance. 4 And my soul hungered; and I kneeled down before my Maker, and I cried unto him in mighty prayer and supplication for mine own soul; and all the day long did I cry unto him; yea, and when the night came I did still raise my voice high that it reached the heavens.
