I enjoyed reading your post. I love how you pointed out that no matter if a child and their mother are separated or if the child is put up for adoption, the attachment between the two remains the same. This shows the importance of attachment and just how strong it can be. However, in your example you state that Hannah visited Samuel yearly. While her yearly visits may display the continued love that she had for her son, I wonder if her yearly visits to Samuel were enough to form or maintain an attachment that is secure. Looking further into your example it states that Samuel was given to God once Samuel was weaned (Foster, 2023). Depending on what age Samuel was weaned, I am sure an attachment was made. Nonetheless, I am simply curious to know if that attachment stayed secure or turned into an avoidant attachment on Samuel's part since Hannah seeing Samuel only once a year may negatively influence their bond. The textbook states that an avoidant attachment is when the child does not show emotion or interest on whether the caregiver leaves or returns and may even ignore a mother's attempt to get their attention (Martorell, 2020, p. 54). I believe that in order to keep a secure attachment with your child, there would have to be more communication and interaction with the child, especially at an early age. References Martorell, G.
