Topic selection I chose the scenario serial murderer Aileen Wuornos because I am really interested in why people commit such a crime. I am always watching crime or murder documentaries. It really interests me in why people turn to murder, I always think to myself, what happened in their childhood for them to commit such a crime? What is going on in their mind when they are murdering someone? Is it biological, environmental, or psychological? Crime type The crime type that is presented in the scenario is serial murder. Wuornos had killed seven men within a year span from 1989 to 1990. She had become a prostitute in her adult years, to which her life spiraled out of control from there. She had married a wealthy man, but after she had gotten into a bar fight, he had their marriage annulled. She had also committed other crimes such as forgery, theft, armed robbery, and assault. Motivational factors The motivational factors of Wuornos committing serial murder could have been many things. It could have been the fact that her father was convicted in prison for molestation, her mother abandoning her and her siblings and her grandparents who were neglectful with her grandmother being an alcoholic, and her grandfather sexually assaulting her and her brother Keith, and Wuornos ending up pregnant to be sent away and then giving the baby up for adoption. It could have been the mental abuse that also motivated her to kill seven men. According to Wuornos, she and her brother were often forced out of the house to live in the woods. She grew up in harsh and negative households.
