PSY 355 Module Two Milestone Template Complete this template by replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information. Respond to the following rubric criteria: 1. Describe how intentionality can enhance group collaboration in 5 to 9 sentences. Include the following: To act with intention means that a person is doing something or “acting consciously, with complete awareness in what you’re doing, and why you’re doing it” (Bohl, n.d). Intentionality enables us to attribute mental states to others by allowing us to understand what other people’s true intentions are or their “beliefs and desires” (Britannica, n.d). Being aware of the intentions of others can help promote better communication, friendships etc. For example, if you knew that your co-worker’s intentions were just to be there for the money you would not collaborate with him on a work project. 2. Describe how empathy can enhance group collaboration in 5 to 9 sentences. Include the following: To walk in someone else’s shoes means to feel and understand how they are feeling. Empathy is “the vicarious experience of another’s feelings” (Myers & Twenge, 2021). Empathy enables us to attribute mental states to others by allowing us to “establish rapport with another person and see a problem through their eyes” (Psychology today, 2019). The ways that empathy can promote group collaboration are “communication, cooperation, adopt positive attitudes, having helping behavior, and diversity” (Abramson, 2021). Being empathetic to everyone benefits society and relationships (Abramson, 2021). 3. Describe how perspective taking can enhance group collaboration in 5 to 9 sentences. Include the following: Taking the perspective of another person means to listen to their point of view and beliefs without judgment. “Perspective taking is a multidimensional ability that includes not only someone’s assessment of reality, but also their perceptional assessment” (Duffy, 2019). Perspective taking enables us to attribute mental states of others by “viewpoints, experience, and environments” (Duffy, 2019). This means that we truly listen to understand why a person believes what they do and why they see a certain thing the way it is. Perspective taking promotes group collaborations by being able to understand other viewpoints, thoughts, and feelings, this results in “more information both personal and impersonal” (Johnson, 2019).
