As an LPC working in a clinical setting, I would use Personality Assessments. Personality assessments help the counselor and client understand the client's attitudes, character traits, interpersonal needs, and intrinsic motivation (Watson & Flamez, 2015). There are multiple personality assessments that can be utilized to understand, diagnose, and treat patients. I will be working with adolescents and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - Adolescent would be beneficial and effective. The MMPI-A is designed to measure characteristics of personality and psychopathology among adolescents ( Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-Adolescent ). When working with adolescents there are several ethical codes to ensure counselors are abiding by. The most important ethical consideration is informed consent. Which ensures the client is able to consent to counseling without parental permission. Confidentiality is another ethical and legal consideration. Which correlates with the Duty to Warn. The counselor should make the client aware of private information they have a duty to discuss with their parent or guardian or law enforcement. Reference Watson, J. & Flamez, B. (2015).Counseling Assessment and Evaluation: Fundamentals of Applied Practice. SAGE: Thousand Oaks, CA. Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory-adolescent . A. Response 1 Unique, I also look forward to working with children and young adults who have mental disabilities. Both assessments you stated would be beneficial in assessing and treating children and young adults. The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - V, is the updated version the the previous Wechsler Intellence Scale for Children - IV. It has more interpretive power, is a more efficient and more user-friendly version of the Wechsler test, and has updated psychometric properties ( Wisc5: Wechsler Intelligence Scale for children). The WISC-V has more benefits which include assisting in the diagnosis of reading and language disorders, clients who are non-verbal, issues with executive functioning visual prescription, and hearing memory deficits. Response 2 Devon, My focus will also be on children. The BASC is a great assessment that can help with assessing children and adolescents to appropriately diagnose and treat the patient. I would like to highlight your statement about monitoring and following up with the child. Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM0 provides information to practitioners and others providing healthcare support to demonstrate the impact of interventions and for service evaluation Javon & Edbrooke-Childs, 2022). I believe it is imperative to utilize ROM to track the client's progress while in treatment. It allows the counselor to make adjustments if needed to best assist the client. As well as track the clients' mental and emotional well-being as they battle with the difficulties of childhood and adolescence. Reference Jacob, J., & Edbrooke-Childs, J. (2022). Nicole, I admire your goal to open a non-profit organization to work with preteens and teens who do not have family support. I believe you should utilize a more informal technique such as interviews and observations. Pre-teens and teens who lack a support system and are searching for guidance and support have a difficult time opening up and discussing their issues. Being able to observe them will help answer questions they may not be comfortable discussing in an interview. The MAPI assessment would be beneficial to utilize for your target group. The MAPI instrument can be used for diagnosis and treatment planning in clinical, correctional, and educational settings by psychologists, psychiatrists, and school counselors, as well as other mental health and guidance professional s (Milton, Green & Meagher) . The assessment highlights the clients' personality, expressed concerns, behavior, and coping patterns. Reference Millon, T., Green, C. J., & Meagher, R. B., Jr. (No year specified.).
