Support your response with research Speech and language are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same. Both terms have the same meaning when talking about verbal communication, but there important differences between the two. Speech is the ability to make specific sounds and sound combinations. It is oral communication, the sound of spoken word, and is the ability to talk using the lips, tongue, jaw and vocal chords to produce and articulate specific sounds.
