PSYC 421: Discussion Thread: Personality Testing Personality testing has been used for years in many different applications. You can easily search the internet and find countless personality tests to take. Some of these tests are geared towards tailoring your answers for certain categories. Over the semesters I have taken several personality tests from different writers. I have always found the assessment to be very interesting. Personality assessment is defined as the measurement of psychological traits, states, values, interests, attitudes, worldviews, acculturation, sense of humor, and related individual characteristics. (Cohen et al., 2022.). Personality tests are used in several different ways and for many different reasons. Some are used to test different psychological theories while others are meant to compare changes that have occurred in someone's personality. Psychologists use personality tests for evaluation purposes for their clients. It has become commonplace for employers to screen potential job applicants with a personality test during the hiring process. For an individual taking a personality test, it can be a helpful tool in assessing what their likes and dislikes are, by looking into these things that person can also use the results to help narrow down what they would like to pursue for their college and career path. Taking a personality test for yourself can give you insight into who you are and help you better understand your communication style, which could lead to improving your self-confidence. Our personality is a culmination of who we are as a person on the inside, in which God knows well and has shaped according to His design, for it is written, “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD
looketh on the heart” (King James Version, 2017, 1 Samuel 16:7). For myself, I have found that as my relationship with the Lord grows, my personality has changed in many ways to become more in line with God's word. In the future, I believe more employers will require personality testing during the hiring process, along with colleges requiring testing during the initial application. I believe these will be used to make sure the fit for the student and employee will be a good match. With this, I see that personality testing will become a regular occurrence in our lives, instead of for personal interest. References Cohen, R. J., Schneider, W. J., & Tobin, R. M. (2022).
