The case study you selected, the client and mental health issue you identified, and the intervention you selected for treating the issue in counseling. Explain the findings of the article and how the research article results match or were different from what you expected to find. Did your findings change your perception about the intervention? Would you choose to use this intervention with your client in the case study based on the contents of the article? Cite content from the article you identified to support your post. Also, include a reference for this article in your post. Attach a PDF of the article to your post . Case Study #2: Jim 14-year-old Caucasian male Mental Health Issue: Adjustment Disorders (F43.24) With the disturbance of conduct, Acute Intervention: Charity offers peer groups for bereaved families. Sessions are separated into groups and ages. Activities that share experiences and feedback. The case study that I chose was Jim a 14-year-old Caucasian male. Jim was requested services by his parents after they noticed many changes he was experiencing in his personal life. His sister died 5 months ago, and he is dealing with the grief and shock of the news by spiraling out of control. He is drinking, grades dropping, and hanging around new people that are “goth”. Jim’s teachers are worried about his achievements and academics. He is becoming reluctant with his parents and keeping his distance. His mother is saying he is going through and stage and his father is dealing with his sobriety leaving the family on their own. The family seems to be all together dealing with their own issues on their own. The death of Helen is not talked about as a family, and it is leaving a strain on their communication. The Article The article shows finding of how children express higher difficulties in their lives when they experience bereavement and grief. The research was conducted on eligible families who have dealt with a death in the family and the ages ranged from 8 to 17 years old. This study was pointing out the key importance of how a child becomes withdrawn from social interactions with family, friends, and school. Their sense of connection is not as strong due to trauma or stressor in their lives. According to Metel and Barnes (2011), 20% of bereaved children are likely to need special services for depression and other psychiatric difficulties. Meaning that children who are going through a tough loss will endure greater emotional distress. The intervention is a 6 to 8-week session where there are 3 to 8 members in a group. There are leaders within the group run from The Jigsaw4U charity group that is running the sessions. Each 90- minute group has an activity that starts the group and sparks communication. There are activities like memory boxes, salt jars, anger walls, and Tesco tantrums. Each of these activities touches on the emotions one may experience and gets a deeper meaning out of them.
Findings and Client Intervention This article provided light on what is expected in a child or children who are suffering from bereavement. The results showed there are either several factors keeping a child from communicating and or struggling to connect like not knowing how to spend time opening being vulnerable to the pain. The child is to look at their parents, see what they do and follow their way of handling things. I would choose this intervention for my client Jim because the key factors that are being pointed out are very much how he lives. Lack of communication and developmental connection among peers, school, and within the family home (Metel & Barnes, 2011). Jim needs to speak to his parents and vice versa. This study directly asked the children to speak freely, and the parents were appreciative that they spoke. The goal is knowing they are not alone and support is shown in this study (Metel & Barnes, 2011). Metel, M., & Barnes, J. (2011). Peer-group support for bereaved children: a qualitative interview study. Child & Adolescent Mental Health , 16 (4), 201–207. https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1475- 3588.2011.00601.x THICAL AND CULTURAL CONSIDERATIONS IN COUNSELING RESEARCH WEEK 3 discussion notes Talking about the Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male from (1932-1972) which originated with the US PHS (Public Health Service) Study is based and rooted on deep racial implications that left clues and how the study was progress this study lasted almost 40 years. And according to chapter three reading this study consisted of over 500 men and they were this seemed to have bad blood many things were promised to them including medication physical anesthesia and various of medical treatments When the vaccination or specifically penicillin was a available in the 1940s the vaccine was denied to those men and someone who was working for the public health service by the name of Peter Buxton when do the prayers and was revealing the true the purpose of this study there was a lot of ethical concerns and Buxton was a social worker interviewer and going out to the press was his way of trying to let people know of this racial concern and how it was a study like this was giving a light to the issue the study officially ended in July of 1972 after a report was made to The Associated Press and the center where the study was being held went into a court battle and $10 million was settled in 1974 behind all of this many things throughout those almost four decades was 4 decades of mistreated both physically and mentally in the counseling profession as a client and counselor. this album rooted is racial discrimination The center where the study was being held they were rightfully so deemed as genocide
Now looking at the ACA codes of ethics I chose section A 12 abandonment and client neglect now as this state is here counselors do not abandon or neglect clients in counseling counselors assist in making appropriate arrangement for the continuation of treatment when necessary during interruptions such as vaccination illness and following termination\ now in this study it is stated that during this long journey of this study the men who were the participants were denied of the medical research and treatments that were available just as early as the 1940s the public health service who were in coerce with the study we're actively working against these men to deny the treatments In my professional journey as a counselor just as we are held to these ethical codes it's important that each and every one of them are followed including the one from section A12 abandonment and client neglect. We are there to counsel and guide and protect and earn that trust from our client they gave us their problems and we're there to help them work through their solutions and when treatment and some medical issue or requirement is needed of us to them we must be there for them from once from the start we see our client and we we built rapport we let them see us and we see them And from that moment we continue a counselor client relationship that builds around the client Wellness Hello Tamika, Great job with your video response. You explain very well the ethical code and the research study! This ethical code in terms of being used in counseling would look something like this: Jay is a 35 -year-old man who often goes to counseling for a career change. He was informed that a counseling study for males is being held about baldness in young males. He was asked to participate. The study was looking into the ages 18-40 years old and the head counselor explain to him that he would have to go under genetics testing to figure out if he had a certain gene. The purpose of the study was to test a gene if participants had to explain the reason for early onset baldness in males. He was given informed consent to sign and explained how long the study would take and the results needed. He was told that whatever results were needed he would be aware. Jay was explained in a way where he understood the assessment and what was being asked of him.

Week 6 discussion quantitative qualitative Quantitative data is numbers-based, countable, or measurable. Qualitative data is interpretation-based, descriptive, and relating to language . Quantitative data tells us how many, how much, or how often in calculations. Qualitative data can help us to understand why, how, or what happened behind certain behavior This study that I've found is move regulation and self-awareness and conscious listening choices and young people with tendency to depression this study was exploring seven young people with tendency of depression and they chose different style of music This study really points out that media the social media really impacts your mood especially when there's a lot of negativity Times when someone is in a period of depression music can sometimes Intensify that feeling of sadness and depression because a lot of people don't know how to choose the right music that helps them feel better they may use the music as an unhealthy coping strategy such as emotion focus coping or social withdrawal a rumination The study is focused on qualitative data and they have seven participants who all suffer with depression and And they're from ages 19 28 and there were six female one male and half of them received previous treatment for depression and the other half hasn't and they were from different countries such as United States Brazil The United Kingdom Australia in Canada
The study was trying to get the participants to view that listening to music was impacting their negative mood specifically that selection of their music so there was two broad categories that manage negative moods when using music the first one was selecting music that differ from the negative mood and effort to shift a negative mood and second selecting music that mirrored the negative mood in an effort to cope with negative feelings the strategies both of them appear to have negative outcomes at times and positive outcomes at other times five of the seven participants described listening to music that differed from the mood they were experienced in the order to try to alter a negative mood For example participants will say I'm using music to block out myself from getting my head so they would be feeling anxious and another participant would be I use music to calm down so they're feeling relaxed one participants put on happy music to cheer her up and it was fast tempo The findings demonstrated that most young people we're making decisions to listen to music from an unconscious motivation and through this study they gained self reflection and awareness and it effects on some healthy music they use a scale of healthy and unhealthy music scale as an awareness raising tool I would prefer to use qualitative for this question because music is and can be biased in terms of mood because people can use music to make them happy make him sad and you know there can always be an A deeper underlying issue maybe depression or maybe just happiness and it can uncover a deeper meaning to how we let music affect us and what specifically thank youda how I would use quantitative data would be measuring pre moods of the participants in a scale of 1 to 10 show you feel now and then afterwards when they listen to music pick out for them how they feel then again in a scale of 1 to 10 one really bad horrible and 10 being amazing. another great way would be measuring how or which type of songs that make you feel good and which ones this rating them on a point system scale 1 to 10 and see how it affects your mood this is uncovering which genre of music people would prefer more how I would use a qualitative data would be by asking whether they prefer female or male artists in terms of music or survey country music versus rock music or pop music and just figuring out which emotional state they are in determining how they respond to the questions. Just understanding why these certain types of music give some a better feeling or why not
