PSY-380 Introduction to Probability and Statistics Project 2 For this assignment, you will review the two scholarly articles: Read " Innovative Behavioral Health Programs for Older Adults: Findings From Movement Therapy in Older Adults Experiencing Anxiety and Depression ," by Salmons et. al., from  The Arts in Psychotherapy  (2022). Read " The Study of the Effects of Yoga Exercises on Addicts' Depression and Anxiety in Rehabilitation Period ," by Marefat et al., from  Procedia-Social and Behavioral Sciences  (2011). Both articles are from psychology journals and utilize hypothesis testing and a quantitative method. Review both articles, then select one and respond to the following questions in 750 - 1000 words. This does not include the instructions or the question stems, so before submitting your document to LopesWrite, delete the question stems and the directions to the assignment. Include the title and your answers to each question. 1. Provide the APA reference of the article you chose a. Salmons, C., Roberts, M., Sappington, E., Yalcin, A., & VandeWeerd, C. (2022). Innovative behavioral health programs for older adults: Findings from movement therapy in older adults experiencing anxiety and depression.  The Arts in Psychotherapy 77 . https://doi-org.lopes.idm.oclc.org/10.1016/j.aip.2021.101873 2. Describe the study. What was the purpose of the study/or research question(s)? a. According to this article, there will be a rise in the number of older adults in the US dealing with mental health issues, and traditional treatments are likely to be inefficient, costly, and socially stigmatizing. Expressive movement is used in Movement Therapy (MT), a psychotherapeutic approach, to achieve positive emotional and physical change. In a study done in The Villages, Florida, the effects of short-term MT were examined on subjective measures of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, personality, and quality of life. The results showed significant drops in depression and rises in self-worth. The participants reported having a positive MT experience. Further studies may need to use control groups and follow-up measurements to confirm its effectiveness (Salmons et al., 2022). 3. Identify which test statistic was used. Did they use more than one test statistic? Explain. a. Under the data analysis section in this article, it says “paired sample t-tests and chi-square tests were used to examine differences between entry and exit surveys response.” So, they used two tests to form a conclusion. 4. Report the statistical results for all tests (using correct APA style formatting). a. In conclusion the statistical results a total of 49 participants (43 females). According to the study, after four weeks of therapy, those pursuing Mind-in- Motion therapy saw a significant reduction in their levels of anxiety and
depression. Between 0 and 14, the HADS depression scores dramatically declined, and the BDI score fell from 14.48 to 12.21. Additionally, the HADS anxiety score dropped, going from 9.71 to 9.17 points, though the decline was not statistically significant. According to these results, Mind-in-Motion therapy might be helpful for people looking for anxiety and depression treatment. 5. Interpret and explain the statistical results. Was the hypothesis supported? Explain. a. My interpretation of this study is that it was successful. Older adults benfited from doing mind to motion therapy. 6. Describe the limitations to the study and suggestions for future research. a. Some of the limitations were that the study group was not big enough so in future research they will people. They would also add more male participants to make it more of even male to female ratio. Also they would need a control group. 7. How do results from this study contribute to research in behavioral health? a. The findings of this study highlight Motion to Mind therapy as a valuable tool for treating anxiety and depression in older adults, which advances the field of behavioral health research. 8. How will the results of this study impact practice in behavioral health? a. Positive effects on practice behavioral health will result from this study's findings. It makes sense that if older individuals moved around (if they are able to), they can benefit from it.
