Identify the name of the group and date you attended. o The Group I attended was Compassionate Friends Group for Bereaved Siblings on 2/8/24 @ 6pm PST Provide a brief description of what the group dynamics looked or felt like. o This group felt comfortable. When entering the group the facilitator started with sharing a little of her own story and what compelled her to start leading the group. It was clear I and the other participants with their cameras on felt comforted to hear she had experienced something similar. The facilitator talked about grief and valentines day. We shared stories and talked about our own experiences with loss. This gave me the first opportunity to share what I experienced with the loss of my sister in December. The participants appeared to actively listen to eachother and offered relation and sympathy to each individual who chose to speak. This group felt like a safe space to share and to grieve with others. Describe any skills the facilitator of the group displayed. Include at least two examples. o The facilitator encouraged an environment that was both therapeutic and effective in getting individuals to open up about their own experiences. The facilitator actively listened, validated feelings, and assured conversation amongst group members was always supportive. She had an ability to guild discussion effectively, while encouraging participation from all group members. Discuss the strengths and the needs of this specific group experience or setting. o I feel that virtual groups are always challenged with a sense of discomfort and awkwardness. The facilitator of this group did a good job at ensuring flow and comfort of conversation. I do wish I had an opportunity to attend a group with her in person as I feel she likely has a very calming and supportive presence. Another need I noticed in this group was there was a significant amount of interruption due to pets, background noise, and accidentally talking over each other. I feel this is common in all virtual groups, and not specific to this support group inparticular. I felt overall this group was amazing and I am very much looking forward to attending it again tonight.
