Pick an evidence-based systemic family treatment from this week's reading in What You Need to Know and explain how it evolved in working with children and adolescents In our readings for this week, there was an example of how family systems theory and social cognitive theory was used as an intervention for pediatric obesity. According to Wampler and Mcwey, the main determinants of social cognitive theory include outcome expectations, self‐efficacy, and observational learning, Family systems theory describes families as systems with multiple simultaneous interactions occurring. Using social cognitive theory as an intervention for pediatric obesity has proven to be effective using the observing technique. Observational learning through modeling perhaps has the most overlap with family systems theory as it represents change between dyads and the system level, not just individual change (Wampler and Mcwey 2020).
