Andrew Jackson A Man of the People? Was Andrew Jackson a man of the people? While he was known as a president for the common man, was he really a president for every person? We will be grappling with this question for the next few days. Before we can ask this question, though, we must complete the historical background on this controversial historical figure. As you read the historical background, answer the following questions. 1. Describe the Election of 1824 Andrew Jackson won the popular vote and the electoral vote, but Adams was declared president 2. Imagine you are Andrew Jackson. You are writing a diary entry the day after the Election of 1824. Write it below, and be detailed and specific! Ahhh yes the election that was held yesterday. I was surely told I had a fair chance right? WRONG!!! It was an unfair way because I had more votes entirely. I would have made a much better president and I would have made many law and voting changes. 3. What is Jacksonian Democracy? Describe it in your own words. It was the idea that everybody can have free speech towards the government
4. Imagine you are Andrew Jackson. You are writing an entry into your diary the day AFTER your inauguration. Be detailed and specific! The idea of having say towards the government would bring power to the people. This is good because the government would also have to listen to what the people are actually saying. But NOOOO Adams wanted TO BE PRESIDENT!!!!! 5. What is the Spoils System? What are your views on it? The Spoil system is the successful political party that gives public offices to its supporters. I think this is unfair because presidents give just give offices to their friends and not the people the actually need it.
