Constitution of the Seton Hall University Outing Club Preamble: We, the members of the Seton Hall University Outing Club, in recognition of the benefits of outdoor activities for physical, mental, and social well-being, establish this Constitution to govern our activities, ensure safety, and promote camaraderie. Article I: Name The name of this organization shall be the Seton Hall University Outing Club, hereafter referred to as SHUOC. Article II: Purpose The purpose of SHUOC shall be: 1. To promote and organize outdoor activities for the members of Seton Hall University. 2. To foster appreciation for nature and the environment. 3. To provide opportunities for skill development in various outdoor activities. 4. To ensure safety during all outings. Article III: Membership 1. Membership is open to all students, faculty, and staff of Seton Hall University. 2. No member shall be discriminated against on the basis of race, gender, religion, nationality, or any other protected category. 3. Members must adhere to all club rules and guidelines, and demonstrate respect for nature and fellow members. Article IV: Officers 1. The officers of SHUOC shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Event Coordinator, and Public Relations Chair. 2. Officers shall be elected annually by a majority vote of the membership. 3. Duties: President: Preside over meetings, represent the club, and ensure the implementation of club activities. Vice-President: Assist the President and assume duties in their absence. Secretary: Maintain records, minutes of meetings, and handle club correspondence. Treasurer: Manage club finances, collect dues, and present a financial report annually. Event Coordinator: Plan, coordinate, and oversee all club outings and events, ensuring they adhere to safety guidelines. Public Relations Chair: Handle external communications, promote club events, and manage the club's public image. Article V: Meetings 1. Regular meetings shall be held monthly. 2. Special meetings can be called by the President or upon request of one-third of the members. 3. A quorum for any meeting shall consist of 50% + 1 of the active members.
Article VI: Activities 1. Activities may include hiking, camping, rock climbing, kayaking, and other outdoor pursuits. 2. All activities shall be approved by the Event Coordinator in consultation with the executive committee. Article VII: Amendments 1. Proposals for amendments can be presented by any member. 2. Amendments require a two-thirds majority vote of the membership present at a meeting. 3. Approved amendments become effective immediately. Article VIII: Dissolution In the event of dissolution, any remaining funds shall be donated to an environmental or outdoor-focused charity, as decided by the membership.
