Gabriel Sanchez POLS_2305 Hanjin Mao December 6 th , 2022 Final Reflection Why is this class so important to take throughout college one may ask, well truth being especially in todays society everything is being so sensitized that one does not have that “freedom” we had as little as 2-3 years ago. We could all take jokes no matter what they were about, no one was getting offended or at least not in a serious matter and there were rarely any “Karen’s” that people could enjoy doing many things without someone interrupting. These 2 ideals are some of the most controversial issues followed by Black Lives Matter, gun laws, abortions, and many more issues going on in America’s society that we need to know our rights to stand up for ourselves to prove our/a point to our government and to provide certain economic things that private sectors restrict, basically protecting our rights. The idea of "good governance" suggests a vision for how governments ought to function, be organized, and be held responsible. This provides an objective for institutional design. It represents the antithesis of a number of diseases, including fragility, tyranny, capture, neglect, and misrule. The government exist for the people and to protect our rights not the other way around, not the government giving us certain rights and or taking advantage of its powers. As sad as it is, our government is way too corrupt to one live in especially under democratic power because it can be very corrupt and inefficient, its casteism (prejudice or antagonism directed against someone of a different caste) and communalism, anti-socialism, and social inequalities. Which leads into how citizens and the
government correspond with one another is that the government must respects a citizens right to associate freely, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom to bear arms, and many more freedoms the government gives us under the bill of rights and has to respect them no matter what but citizens have to also respect government laws to protect one from another in any situation and abide by the laws at all times. One of these rights that one is born into, is the freedom to vote which is the main right that citizens need to take part/engage in our government to stay up to date with local and national politics, sharing ideas and spark debates in your communities, supporting local business, vote, volunteer, and etc. this is how citizens should be engaged with democracy. Some of the topics that I found interesting over the course are those of public opinion and media, political participation and civil liberties and civil rights. I found public opinion and media interesting because it shows off our right of freedom of speech but even that has sensitivity that even the slightest words shared or posted onto the media, someone may find it offensive and that’s it your account can get reviewed, blocked and even deleted because that “freedom” of speech is slowly going away. I also found political participation interesting because everyone and everyone’s word counts in politics, it can be a simple saying or a long saying it doesn’t matter it still contributes to the community and also because it was my first time voting so it encouraged me to vote. Finally, I also found civil liberties and civil rights interesting because it showed me what I can and cannot do or at least what is a law that protects other laws from being messed with. These topics relate to today’s society because everyone now “knows” their rights and what they can and cannot do. Especially all the social media that everyone posts shows people arguing trying to prove their points and what their rights are and it honestly gets overwhelming to see that too much. It is important to vote because that is our voice and power to decide hat rules we
want to take place or what needs to be done in our community such as fixing streets, building hospitals, pharmacies, food locations, everything to help the people.
