Gabriel Sanchez 2/28/2023 POLS_2306 Discussion Question The Texas Rangers I was surprised to find out about the early history of the Texas Rangers are restricted to Texas, at least as broad sense law enforcement personnel at the state level. The Texas Rangers are the pinnacle of the police food chain in Texas and have a long history. They have almost identical if not the exact same needs of qualifications as regular police officers here in Houston with physical and mental state followed by level of education. Several states will employ park rangers or game wardens who operate for their own government departments (such as the department of forestry or the division of state parks) and who might or might not have police authority (they usually do). In areas where they lack police authority, they often serve as naturalists or preservation officers. The Texas Rangers from back in the day were active in the Mexican-American war, when the Texas governor travels for business around the state, they also offer security, and they offer this service to foreign dignitaries who are in town and ask for their protection, they were formed before Texas was its own republic one famous Ranger is none other than Stephen F. Austin. Today the Texas Rangers are known as Texas’ own form of FBI having as much authority as the real FBI so in reality much more than regular police officers. Currently, the Texas Rangers are the premier law enforcement agency in the state of Texas. They are responsible for rural policing, high profile detective work, intelligence collection and more. This shows why

they are on top of the game, but they aren’t at the same time with not being well known or “popular” as any other police agency. I think that in order to reform an agency such as the Texas rangers is almost impossible because they are very important the Texan culture being the first authority of Texas and encouraging many other states to do the same with a different type of ranger. I also believe that the other police forces can take away from a Ranger is that of earning a higher authority were they are able to be as strong as a ranger, FBI, and even a judge almost like a executioner except without the whole killing part just put to jail for their crimes, having justice in their hands.
