I hope everyone is having a good week thus far. For me it has been pretty busy
can't seem to find anytime to myself.
How does a person know whether a document has been plagiarized?
This can be a difficult to detect to someone who does not know exactly what
they are looking for. Plagiarism is when someone essentially steals someone
else's work without giving them the proper credit for it. Looking at grammar,
font size, spelling, or just the vocabulary complexity used within the paper or
document received. Plagiarism can be detected in a multitude of ways
examples being some sort of software such as Grammarly, or Turnitin. Also
taking some of the wording in question and copying it from the document and
pasting it in say a website such as google and using that search engine to see if
the wording comes up in other documents.
What constitutes a set of guidelines that will comprise a code of ethics for
information professional?
A code of ethics for information professionals must rely on a person's values.
Now if they are a part of an organization, they must work there because the
organization values lines up with their values as a person. Values that are a
must in the information professional field is integrity, societal concerns and
responsibilities, competence, and professional responsibilities. In today's
industry of digital print and news and not so many newspapers any more
ensuring that the information put out there is true and accurate, this means not
taking bribes or kickbacks from anyone or acting prematurely with
information received. For example, I am a huge Michigan Wolverines fan
being from Michigan and if you follow any inkling of college football
everyone knows of their current scandal going on with alleged sign stealing.
Now it seems that every single day since the start of the investigation there are
leaks everywhere and information is being dispersed before confirmation of
anything such as reports flooding the web that the staffer in question was fired
only to have that story retracted 5 minutes later to say he resigned. It is
important to maintain credibility not to tarnish their own reputation but the
reputations of others that may be involved in the article or document.
Maintaining ethical guidelines should be paramount in times like these.
Hope everyone has a great rest of their week.
