1 Course Project Milestone Hi class, OPTION 1 I chose option one because as someone who works in an area where most of the patient's fall under the poverty, drug abuse, lack of health care, or have a criminal record, I can relate to situations in which people may judge based on the previous information and that is not ethical nor right for the patient regardless of their background. I can provide two examples in which I dealt or saw situations in which ethics and patient's rights came into place. Once, we received an a emergency for a patient who was involved in a shooting and was injury, naturally the police came with the patient, as I am standing there waiting to see if the patient would require surgery, the cop told me, "He has killed a few, and you guys continue to save his life. That kind of makes you guys an accomplice if you think about it". The comment took me by surprise, and all I could say was "Well, I see your point, but our job is to safe lives regardless of who the patient is, yours is to serve justice". It is really important to understand that ethically, we take care of people and even we may have bias or understand that certain things may not be fair, we are not the judges for that, and the ethical course would be to "do no harm". On the other hand, there is a "right" perspective. In another occasion, a patient came in and the CRN's were trying to intubate the Cops were insisting in the identification of the patient. The CRN said that she was not going to make that identification, she was a nurse and as far as she knew he was a patient who required immediate interventions. Regardless of the patient's background, the right to privacy/confidently remains. Every person, once becomes a patient has certain rights that must be respected regardless of who they are, drug abusers, prisoners, living in poverty, etc. Said rights are such as the right to "inform consent", "refusal of treatment", "medical treatment in an emergency", "confidentially", and others (Olejarczyk & Young, 2022). I do believe that basic needs should be met yet unfortunately, we can denied that people experience discrimination and injustices depended on these situations. References Olejarczyk, J., & Young, M.
