Option 2: What moral guidelines should we use when it comes to recently introduced healthcare technologies of any kind (you will note and engage with your own examples) and social technologies of any kind (you will note and engage with your own examples)?
When discussing moral guidelines, we want to remember that this means the
thought process and the direction that will lead an individual to making the right decision. Earlier in a discussion, we were able to discuss the new healthcare technologies that are arising. I chose artificial intelligence. This can be a controversial addition to the healthcare field due to the computer completing tasks that would normally be done by a human such as a provider or nurse. Although I don’t believe AI can replace the nursing role, I feel it could be an efficient addition. The moral guidelines in artificial intelligence lack the true emotion and empathy because it is computer based. AI is trained and programmed to complete specific tasks. The security
and safety of the patient could be neglected if they were to replace human beings. The moral guidelines of this technology can affect patient care tremendously. Where would the accountability of mistakes be held? An efficient use of artificial intelligence is the automated medication dispenser machines. It allows you to dispense the dosage of medication needed by a click of a button. The nurse should double check and verify the correct dose, route, medication name, and patient but can expedite the old fashion process of retrieving medications. Social technology is improving our way of communication for the better. We’re able to chat with providers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to allow quicker orders and better care for patient satisfaction and treat them in a timely manner. I see these types of technologies frequently used in the emergency department and it assists in overall adequate, accurate, and over better quality of care. I believe moral guidelines allow us to make the decisions to use these tools to better treat the patient. Over time, we’ve been adjusted to the convenience of these tools but the accountability to care for the patient will lay in the nurse' hands. Morality will allow us to make the right decision and complete the appropriate task at hand, what do you think? References:
