PERSONAL THEORY PAPER OUTLINE 1 Personal Theory Paper Outline Uniqua Evans Liberty University
PERSONAL THEORY PAPER 2 I. Summary a. Primary Goal Christian maturity is the ultimate goal when it comes to biblical counseling (Crabb, 1977) The best approach usually comes from those who have formal or informal preparation in both psychology and theology (McMinn, 2011). b. Development of Problems and Personal Need The problems that people face is that their desire for love which is the greatest personal need for relational connections and belongingness (Benner,2015). c. Biblical Integration Clinical psychologist respected the importance of religion due to the benefits of coping to one’s difficulties (Entwistle, 2015). Nouthetic counseling is driven by biblical principles that confront people in an empathetic loving manner to aid in change (Powlison,2010). d. Formula for Change The steps I would integrate would be the informal approach that Benner and Adams approach. Christians were on the front line of helping the mental ill (Entwistle, 2015). I would prefer an informal approach similar to Benner or Adams when it comes to helping a client change. Adams method embrace three ideas that are called confrontation, concern, and change (Powlison,2010). e. Balance of Theology and Spirituality
PERSONAL THEORY PAPER 3 Crabb method offers a balance between the theology and spirituality because of what they have to offer or benefit from each other (Crabb, 1977). f. Human Personality Adams informs that that human being lack of love for each other and relationship with God had so much to do with the negative behaviors (Powlison,2010). g. Humans Counselor’s Function and Role Adams perspective on the relationship between the counselor and the client is an encouraging approach (Powlison,2010). h. Contributions of Your Personal Theory of Counseling I prefer Crabb personal theory. Crabb theory shaped students in the counseling profession within the church setting (Crabb, 1977). i. Limitations of this Counseling Theory Adams has nouthetic and biblical approach; this limits his views on different area to where it rejects secular psychology (Powlison,2010) j. Classification Crabb approach as an integrative one because he views a balance between spirituality and psychology (Crabb, 1977). II. Practical Application a. Utility for Counseling and Potential Personal Influence As a pastor wife, I would prefer a pastoral counselor if I were in a situation such as adultery. The author shows his readers how our basic

Brief Example in a Counseling Moment I would provide Adams and Crabb similar approach in scripture and psychology competency. Powlison informs how Adams brings forth being very wise in knowledge in scripture and theological training when it comes to counseling is as equally important to the pastoral counselor training as well (pg. 132).
