CONNECT-EXTEND-CHALLENGE
Consider what you have just read, heard, or seen, then ask yourself:
1. How are the ideas or information presented
connected
to what you already knew?
2. What new ideas did you get that
extended
or broadened your thinking in new directions?
3. What
challenges
or puzzles have come up in your mind from the ideas and information presented?

CHALLENGE
The idea that father’s are an important
and vital part of a child’s development
was something I already knew as both
parents are integral to the growth of a
child. I also knew that it might be
difficult to get father’s in schools due to
them not knowing how to integrate or
have bad school experience.
What broadened my thinking is that
father’s may be intimidated by schools
and although I knew that some dad’s are
difficult to approach, I did not know to
what extent. It would be helpful for
teacher’s to find common ground with
father’s and get them involved in their
interests like sports, playing, or reading
a book of their choice. Anything to get
them involved. I also did not know the
extent to which father’s were absent in
their child’s life. I see more mom’s than
dad’s in school but never ask if they are
present at times since most work.
However, seeing the statistics puts it into
perspective.
The challenge presented is seeing how I
can get father’s in the school I work at to
participate or volunteer as most work or
do not want to get involved. There are
many religions to take into
consideration and beliefs so one must
tread lightly and respectfully.
