Essentially, the movie asks us to consider the consequences of this collision.
Can these opposing viewpoints live in harmony with one another, or will
conflict always arise? "Black Mountain" challenges our ideas of unity and
diversity in the field of faith by making us consider whether the changing
face of globalization will result in a synthesis of ideas or a greater struggle
for the preservation of perceived religious truths.
This distinct viewpoint turns "Black Mountain" into a symbolic battlefield
where these two worldviews collide. Globalization serves as a catalyst,
uniting seemingly incompatible elements and provoking conflict between the
flexible, adaptable syncretism and the firm, unwavering fundamentalist
beliefs.
In the movie Black Mountain, Religious Integration is portrayed as a
phenomenon where different religious traditions have influenced each other
over time, leading to the emergence of new forms of belief and practice. The
diversity of religious traditions is emphasized in this perspective, which
recognizes that they are constantly evolving. However, radical or
fundamentalist views of religious purity advocate for strict adherence to
traditional beliefs and practices without any external influence or deviation.
Such beliefs tend to emphasize exclusivity rather than inclusiveness,
creating tension and conflict with the fusion approach that acknowledges
diversity. This fundamentalist approach seeks to maintain uniformity, while
the fusion approach acknowledges diversity. When individuals or groups hold
opposing views about what constitutes an
“
authentic”
religion, those views
can lead to conflict.
I definitely agree with your point on how radical and fundamentalist
approaches aren't too inclusive. Not all religions have a core connection with
one another so it's best to think outside the box and consider different ways
to talk about religion and globalization. Having a fluid approach is the best
and the radical view does the complete opposite
