Review a social media blog and examine it for fallacious reasoning. Identify at least two
examples of fallacies that we have discussed in class within the selected blog. Record the
fallacious quotes from the blog and explain what type of fallacy you believe they are. For
follow-up discussion, decide whether you agree or disagree with your classmates and
explain why. Your response should be based on the fallacy only, not the content of the
selected blog.
Include a citation for the source you use.

Advertisers start dropping O’Reilly: Is the end near?
Statement with fallacy: “Advertisers start dropping O’Reilly: Is the end near?”
Fallacy: Slippery Slope
In the blog stating that advertisers are dropping the O’Reilly show and questioning if the end is
near I feel falls into the slippery slope fallacy considering only two advertisers are confirmed to
have dropped during his show and they are automatically jumping to the worst possible scenario
of the show being taken off the air, they also clearly state that the other twenty advertisers say
they “will look in to it” and that they aren’t taking the show off the air at the moment because it
is still making the network money.

“The Age of Mass Unemployment Is Nigh, and That’s Not the Worst of It.”
Statement with fallacy: “From teachers to soldiers to cab drivers to doctors, most jobs will likely
be taken over by machines within the next two decades if current trends hold”
Fallacy: Hasty Generalization
I felt that the fallacy used in this statement is hasty generalization. The blog is talking about the
use of robots in replacement of jobs but the example they are using is replacing humans with
robots in fast food chains. I don’t feel that fast food chains should be put in the same category as
teachers, soldiers, cab drivers and doctors.

As you are working on your outline this week, review your three subtopics. Do you see any
fallacies in them? How will you avoid using fallacious reasoning in your essay?
Class,
I have reviewed all my subtopics and I do not see any fallacies within them. However, with me
being so passionate about my topic, I can see the slippery slope fallacy being the one I will
struggle with the most while writing my essay. To avoid using the slippery slope fallacy or any
for that matter is to just stick to facts and evidence to support my stance and try to avoid letting
my own emotions take over in my writing. I am not going to lie, this week’s assignments on
fallacies has been tough, but I know that by learning what fallacies are and the different types,
my writing will only benefit.
