Basic Components of Worldview Name: Carson Poarch Course: CWV-101-O512 Date: 06/13/23 Instructor: Robert Vaughan Be sure you answer both Part 1 and Part 2 of this assignment before submitting. Part 1: Core Worldview Beliefs Based on the basic components of worldview presented in Chapter 2 and the topic overview , write a response to each of the six questions that form the basic components of your own core worldview beliefs. Respond to the questions about your own beliefs in your own words, and not necessarily what you think the Christian worldview believes. Keep this document intact and only add your answers in the box under each question. 1. What is your belief about the nature of ultimate reality? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: When discussing ultimate reality I believe that it is completely managed by God. I believe that He has plans created for us before we are even on this earth and knows exactly what will happen to us. I believe that God knows us better than we know ourselves and if we follow His plan for us we will ultimately succeed. 1. What is your belief about the nature of the universe? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I personally believe that God created everything in the universe. I believe that he created this universe for us to learn and grow while also enjoying the things that he created for us. We came to this earth to gain testimony that God is our creator and learn to make choices that are in line with God's teachings. 1. What is your belief about human nature and the afterlife? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I believe that our actions in this life determine our reward in the life to come. That being said I know we have a loving Heavenly Father who provided us with a way to overcome our earthly mistakes and sins and if we trust in the sacrifice of His son Jesus Christ, we can achieve eternal life.
1. What are the three worldview (atheism, pantheism, theism) beliefs about the nature of knowledge? Which one best fits your belief? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: Atheism is the belief that everything is natural and is not led by any higher power at all. Pantheism is the belief that although there may be a realm of spirituality we do not really connect with it. Finally, theism is the belief that there is one God and we have a personal relationship with Him. Seeing as I have a very strong relationship with God and understand that He is the source of all power, I think theism best fits my belief. 1. What is your basis for determining moral right from moral wrong? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: When determining right and wrong, I often try to let the Spirit guide me. I usually try to see if what my decision is makes me feel at peace rather than stressed, and that it is in line with the teachings of Christ. I also look to the Bible and commandments to help me stay on the right path. 1. What is your belief about human purpose? Why? Your answer in two to three sentences: I think that our purpose on this earth is to be tested. God sent us here to learn right from wrong and how ultimately to live a Christlike life in a world that tells us to do the opposite at times. I believe that we are here to share the gospel and help others come unto Christ! Part 2: Evaluation 1. Your answers to the questions in Part 1 form the basis of your worldview. Now that you have articulated your worldview, evaluate it according to the practical test described in Chapter 2 of the textbook and the topic overview. Which of the three worldviews most closely matches your core beliefs as you answered in Part 1? Does your worldview pass the practical test for livability? Why or why not? Provide a clear explanation of the workability and practical value in the most important areas of life and experience. Your answer in 200-300 words: The worldview that I relate with most is that of theism. I have always believed that my worldview passes the test for livability in the way that I understand right and wrong and have a moral code to help me do so. I have the Bible to guide me as well as other means of scripture. I have the ten
commandments that allow me easy steps to follow. I have an understanding that taking the Lord's name in vain is something that makes me feel out of place as well as other things such as lying, cheating and being a person that finds jealousy instead of encouragement. Something that also makes this practical is that many of the commandments are goals that all people see as good. Even the government has many of these commandments in the laws that all people must abide by. Finally I have guidance from leaders in my church as well as from the spirit. I think that all of these guides I have in my life help me to see all people as children of God. I have come to see that God has love for all of His children regardless of how they worship or live. They help me to know that when I may covet or become sinful I can come back to my Savior in a way that is genuine and full of love. In Christ we can take hold of our weaknesses and turn them into strengths. It makes finding our purpose in life feel attainable. I know that by sharing this gospel I can help other people feel the way that I do and understand that with God life will be more enjoyable than ever imagined. 1. Reflect on your current understanding of the Christian faith. In other words, what is the essence of the Christian worldview? How does one become a Christian? Your response will need to articulate your understanding of Christian beliefs and does not require you to believe it. Your answer in 200-300 words: I believe that the Christian worldview is one that understands that everything can be related back to God. It is the understanding that God created the world, oversees it and continues to lead us through His spirit and word. The Christian worldview allows us to understand that we were created by God physically and spiritually, starting with Adam and Eve in the garden. Christians believe the Bible to be the word of God and that it teaches us right from wrong. I believe that one becomes a Christian by allowing God to enter into their everyday life. This often means acknowledging that God exists and created so much for us. It means serving, loving and worshiping each and every day, not just on Sunday. More than anything it means trying our hardest to imitate the Savior and how He lived. It means to be baptized and to repent for our wrongdoings, allowing God to help us create life that is as sinless as possible. Our goal is to achieve eternal life and to live in Heaven with God again. Although this seems stressful and unattainable, Christians understand that anything is possible with God. If we walk to Him, He will run to us! The Lord loves effort!
