Discussion Question 1 Question: From the perspective of Christian spirituality and ethics, what is your understanding of compassionate caring that informs your approach to health and healing? Answer: The Christian worldview has a number of significant implications in regards to ethical considerations within healthcare. Christians operate under the belief that all humans have inherent value and dignity, which is due to the fact that we all are created in God's image. This belief is known as the sanctity of life, which surmises that "...human life...are as much a gift from God...made in God's image..." (Clarke, 2023) and this intrinsic value of life must be cared for at all times. This ethical rule has many implications for compassionate care in health care, this intrinsic value is not meant to be compromised despite any reservations a healthcare provider may have in regards to a patient. These reservations could include social status, ethnicity, religious beliefs, or profession, all of these factors are to hold no sway over the highest obligation, which is to preserve human life. This means that while caring for patients, we should always treat them with the utmost respect and ensure that they are given the highest quality care. This also feeds into the teaching of Jesus, which is to love your neighbor as yourself. This means that if you can do something that you would want done for yourself if the roles were reversed, you should perform that act of kindness. Citations: Clarke, S. (2023, January).
