Week #: 2
Instructions
In the table provided below, you will complete your reflection and synthesis responses for this week. Be sure to complete each Response section. When referencing scripture or other materials, only include a brief or abbreviated summary along with the citation as these cannot be included in the required word count. When you have completed the document, save it to your computer and follow the instructions in your course to submit the assignment to your instructor.

Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several
insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria:
1.
200–300 words in length
(please include your word count at the bottom of the section).
2.
Include at least 3 scripture references
.
Response: This week, we focused on the first article of faith, "We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost." It is a simple phrase, but fundamentally one of the most important. It highlights one of
the most essential parts of our religion, which we believe is probably the most important. It is also something that some people who are not members of our church seem to forget or not understand. We, just like many of them, believe in God and Jesus Christ, and just like them, we are God's children. In D&C 76:24, we are told that the inhabitants of Earth, humans, are all children of God. It, just like the first article of faith, is a simple belief but one that is so important to who we are. Every person on this planet, whether they are a member of our church or not, is a child of God, and we should all treat each other as such. In Moses 1:13, Moses tells Satan that he is not a son of man but a son of God. Moses recognizes that he is not just a human or a child of another human but a son of God, a son of a divine being and that he worships God and will always worship God.
Word Count: 222 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
Genocide
Response: I am a lucky person. I do not tend to recognize that very often, but I am fortunate. I live comfortably in life, have amazing friends and family who love me, and live in an area of the world that is not devastated by war. While the United States has been affected by war, that never happened in my life, and hopefully never will. However, there are
places in this world that are currently being affected by war. Usually, people think that if there was a war or a genocide going on, we, the United States of America, would notice and do something about it to help people. It has happened before, where our country helped people dealing with genocide, but that happened years ago, not today. There are still places that are dealing with the pain and suffering of genocide, and it feels like the U.S. is not doing anything to help those people. Palestine is going through one of the worst things that I have ever seen in my entire life. I have seen countries being at war with each other, but I have never seen something as horrific as this. It is not just war. It is genocide, and it needs to stop.
The most we can do as American citizens is spread awareness, donate as much as we can to actually helpful places, and boycott places and companies that are actively aiding in this horrible genocide of innocent people. We should boycott companies like Starbucks, McDonald's, and Disney. Those are just a few, but even with a bit of research, you can find many more places and companies to avoid. I have seen videos and pictures of children and babies dying on the streets, babies. Innocent humans who have done nothing but exist are dying because of this, and our country is not doing anything to help them. We are too occupied with our own problems, ones that we made, and we apparently do not want to anger our allies, but if our allies are committing these atrocities, should we really call them
allies? We should aid the people of Palestine and give them our support.
