.
Response: Dear friend, this week I would really like to share with you what I learned from the 11
th
and 12
th
Articles of Faith. In
the 11
th
Article of Faith, we learned that we claim to have the privilege to worship our God freely and we allow all
men to have the same privilege. In D&C 134:4 we can read:” We believe that religion is instituted of God…we do not
believe that human law has a right to interfere in prescribing rules of worship to bind the consciences of men, nor
dictate forms for public or private devotion”. I am really grateful to leave in a country where we can be free to
worship our God and to invite all men to do the same without fear of being persecuted. We would need to invite all
countries to offer this religious freedom. In the next verse D&C 134:5 we can learn that we are asked to be obedient
and sustain the law of the country where we live and try to create a community of peace and protection toward all
the citizens. For this reason, as member of the church, we are willing to pay the consequences of our action for
possible mistakes, according the policies of the laws. In D&C 130:20-21 we learn that the principle of obedience has
been decreed in heaven before the foundation of this world. So, it means that we were already subject to obey and
respect laws and rules before to come here on earth. What a great responsibility we have to show to the entire
world that we are covenant people, and since the beginning of our earthly existence, we have been called to decide
to obey to the everlasting teachings of the Gospel. Obeying the Gospel is a great opportunity to share it by our
example in our daily activities.
Word Count: 307 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
International Terrorism
Response: I really like to use these two Articles of Faith talking about a really important and critical topic as the International
Terrorism in our days. I strongly believe that it is possible to have different ideas and opinions regarding different
political views, but these differences should not justify at all the many International Terrorism acts happened in all
these years lately. Our Heavenly Father is asking us to be obedient to the laws of the countries where we do live, and
doing it we should try to make our countries place to live in peace and respect each other. It is really important to
have religious freedom in our countries today because it is giving us the opportunities to share different ideas and
feelings and growing together with people thinking different from us. As I said previously, it is not a bad things to
have different point of views for many aspects in our lives, from politics, from religion and many other things. A really
important thing would be to tolerate each other’s differences and learn from each other and not fight because we
see things differently. As Latter-Day saints we are called to obey the laws of our countries but at the same time trying
to do our best to defend everyone’s country to be free to worship their own religion. I do not think that any religious
people that are actually trying their best to live according their understanding of the principle of the Gospel would do
or create any war or terrorism attack. All the events happened are surely dramatic acts of violence coming from
people that do not have anything to do with their own religion. If every citizen in their own country would be willing
to be patient with other people with a different faith of point of view about something else, the world would still be

different but people would just share with each other their own difference without fighting or creating such great
disaster around the world. We should be all more patient and loving toward the people different from us and trying
to get closer to them in order to share together good experience and not finding reasons to fight. Unfortunately,
people today are only thinking about power and success and they think that this is possible only destroying your
neighbor. I really hope that the hearts of the people all around the world may change soon in order to welcome the
Second Coming of Our Savior being more united and forgiving to each other.
