Reflection and Synthesis Report
Name: Simone Bagni
Week #: 13
Instructions
In the table provided below, you will complete your reflection and synthesis responses for this week. Be sure to complete each Response section. When referencing scripture or other materials, only include a brief or abbreviated summary along with the citation as these cannot be included in the required word count. When you have completed the document, save it to your computer and follow the instructions in your course to submit the assignment to your instructor.
1.
Did you complete all the assigned reading for the week? Yes 2.
Article of Faith
Please identify the Article of Faith studied this week
Response: "We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."
3.
Explanation of Key Events and
Scriptures
Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specific scripture references from the assigned readings
Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several
insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria:
1.
200–300 words in length
(please include your word count at the bottom of the section).
2.
Include at least 3 scripture references
.
Response: This week I would like to share with my family the importance of “…being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men…” (Article of Faith 13). In Mosiah 5:2,4 we learn how much faith
the saints developed, and this great work brought a mighty change in their hearts; a change that invited them to stop
thinking about doing evil, but the desire to do good continually. What a marvelous change is this, thinking to do good
to our family members, friends and neighbors without stopping. In D&C 136:17-33 we can read that if we do the work that God is asking us, we have nothing to fear, even if our enemies are fighting against us, they cannot prevail. In these verses we are learning eternal rules that will govern the Celestial Kingdom, commandments of love and peace one with another. Clearly being this good some days may not be really easy and for this the prophet Moroni left us some invitation how to try to keep the Spirit with us and how to recognize the promptings of the Spirit and follow what is inspired from God. We may invite all people to experiment for themselves and use the Spirit of Christ, that is given freely to every man, to ask directly to God if the principle of the restored gospel through the Prophet Joseph Smith are true or not. I shar my testimony tat I did this experiment many times and I always received an answer from God testifying me the truthfulness of the only living church on earth today, the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day saints.
Word Count: 272 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
Racial strife-Hatred
Response: Not too long ago I was talking with a friend of mine from Italy but living here in the States. He has
Nigerian father and Italian mother so he is an Afro-Italian man with dark skin. He told me that at the beginning, once
he moved here to the States, he felt much more the racial discrimination compared when he was living in Italy for
the first part of his life. Few days ago, it was his birthday so I call him and have a good friendly discussion with him
and shared with him my testimony of the restored gospel that is inviting us to be “honest, true, chaste, benevolent,
virtuous, and in doing good to all men.” We grew up in Italy together and being not catholic was already strange for
our friends when we were going to school but fortunately, I always had friends that understood our differences and
when I could, I was able to share my beliefs. When I was talking recently with this my Italian friend here in the US, I
told him that, as long we strive to our best in living the principle and commandments of the gospel, He will continue
to protect us and bless us. It would surely possible to face some circumstances where we are pointed with a finger
considering us as strange people, particularly today when the world ideas are far different from Our Heavenly
Father’s view. We really need to continue pushing on as the 13th article of faith states:” We believe all things, we
hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things…” It would not be always
easy and sometimes we must pass as losers at the eyes of the world for others around us, but we must follow the
example of Our Savior Jesus Christ, being humiliated, offended and beaten up till death, in order to defend our
precious and sacred gift of our testimonies of the truth. One day our eternal blessings would reward us for all the
trials and difficulties we have been called to face here on earth and eternal peace will replace that feeling of worldly
fear.
